Sir Jackie Stewart has revealed that his wife, Lady Helen Stewart, is suffering from dementia and described her “worthless determination” in the face of the disease.

Lady Helen, 75, was diagnosed two years ago but is refusing to accept she is living with the condition,

Jackie Stewart has started this charity using £1 Million of his own money, I hope this charity does well as this is a terrible disease that puts a terrible strain on all families

I work in this area, and have seen the effect on family members, it's a terrible situation for the patient and family, but more so for the family, as the person with dementia doesn't realise that anything is wrong. It's the people around them that suffer more, in my experience.

that is so true

and so sad to see happy marriages of 50, 60 years and more deteriorate due to the strain

I've seen more than enough sad stories, but I love my job, and caring for them, I feel privileged at times, to be able to care for these people at their most vulnerable. Life is cruel sometimes, that's why I live for today, you never know what tomorrow will bring.
