We have all read an angry profile, written in CAPITALS and stating what they don't want rather than want they do want. Do these profiles work, and deter the 'idiots' and 'those that can't read' or do the deter the very people they are looking for?

Put us right off, along with the angry ranting or frustrated status updates, we can immediately tell we wouldn't get on with those people x

If it's a womans one, no. I bet they're still inundated, in fact i reckon if a lady just had "fuck you, all men. If i meet you i'll cut your balls off with a pair of rusty scissors" on there, she'd still get "fancy a fuck" and "hey, love your profile" messages.

some guys like the direct approach. it makes you seem more like you know what you do want.

i think some guys get that you get a lot of shit messages, people messaging you that are of no interest, etc. and understand why profiles get ranty.

Personally I find them off putting.

I like positivity. We have tried to say what we do want, rather than what we don't. However, we're not generally looking for single guys so have less need to be really forthright.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Well it won't deter anyone who can't read, because they can't read it.

But ranty profiles do put me off. Its not exactly a tempting prospect to message someone who is grumbling about the site on their profile.

I find negativity highly off putting. I like drama and stress free people who are laid back like me. People who rant are really not that although I do understand this site can be frustrating at times.

Which proves it doesn't work ??

Different things work for different people, I guess some may think a shouty ranty profile may be assertive sexually ? Maybe they like that.

Overly negative as well as long I can't be doing with

And the ones that include a little test to prove they've been read, some even include riddles as a kinda IQ filter

I can understand why some get frustrated but in general angry profiles aren't read by those they wish to deter and could well put potentially good prospective meets off.

i feel like ranting on mine but the people it's aimed at don't read your profile anyway, that's only reason why i haven't bothered.

Mine's long but it describes me and what I'm looking for.

If a guy can't make the effort to spend a minute reading my profile, which is laid out as to make it as clear and easy to read as possible, how much can he really want to meet me? How much effort would he bother to make in bed.

It suggests a guy is all about what he wants and isn't interested on what I want out of a meet.

If that's the message you want to send though, that's your call.

The rants are often aimed at people who don't read profiles. They put the rant aimed at people who don't read profiles...wait for it...on their profile

So, yeh.... there's that...

Brighton - even Hove!

I don't bother with profiles like that. Rooming if what they don't want rather than what they do so it makes them sound like negative people so I don't bother.

I hope our profile doesn't come across as angry or attitudy. But we do dedicate the first paragraph to what we don't want. And it has worked enormously in reducing unwanted mail. This way we have more time to focus on the mail we do want to receive.

I think your use of the phrase "we politely request" sums up your reasonable and courteous attitude

Your profile comes across as you do in the forums. Polite, courteous and fair.

Op.

CAPITAL LETTER PROFILES ARE AWFULL TO READ.

I'm put off. It tells me there an angry person who wrote their page directly to the people who annoy them. But it's also shouting at everyone else who they havnt met yet.

Angry profiles make me smile. If this is someone's attempt to sell themselves then what are they like in an off-guarded moment?

In a way, everyone is judging others by the content of their profile, whatever it may be and however it comes across. Its human nature when you have nothing else to go by initially.
