A quality £30-50 golden rum is like a £60-£80 single malt due to the difference between Scotland and the Caribbean.
The sugar cane and molasses are cheaper ingredients, the labour is cheaper and because it is warm summer climate rather than cold wet Scotland they mature quicker.
You should try a Ron Zacapa, a Matusalem 15 or a Diplomatico if you want a nice sipper.
Or some of the spiced ones are good. Some aren't though.
Don't bother with the navy rums and white rums are pretty much all the same and only good for mixers or cocktails. |

A world of my own |
I'm not really into whiskey but I bought a bottle of singleton for my friend. No idea if it's good stuff or not(I just liked the red box the bottle came in)
However, there was definitely something nice about it when we shared it in a kiss |

Not a fan personably but enjoy buying my grandad decent bottles.
Got him a 27 year old bottle for his 80th (can't remember the brand) but he was loving it |

"Anyone into single malt? What is your favourite? On the rocks or neat?"
Depends on the mood but generally something nice and peaty like Laphroaig, or mellow like The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year Old. (The Balvenie reminds me of waking up in the mornings at school, as the distillery was only a few miles down the road.)
It has to be neat in a proper whisky glass, i.e. a small brandy glass that can be cuped in the hand to keep the whisky at body temperature. The only thing that should ever be added is perhaps a drop or two (literally) of water to open it up a little.
Damn, not got any at the moment.
