Spell checkers

I've upgraded my mobile 'phone and the spell checker doesn't work on the new one.

Now, my spelling is pretty good and I can always look up any spellings I am aware I don't know, but I hadn't realised just how used I'd become to having that little red, wiggly line to help me spot typos.

How much do you rely on software such as spell checkers, conversion utilities, sat nav and such like? Have you ever missed one when you didn't have it? Have you found you missed one less than you thought you might?

I largely use my phone spell check but also happy when it's off.

I especially like satnav and public transport planners when abroad - again, usually my phone. Buying a phone outright can be cheaper than a satnav!

Otherwise I use Ms Word with a check, most of the time.

But I also like for it to be me that's correct and not the tool.

Hope you had a great birthday btw. If it was a real one, as I saw Diamond listed with one, 3 months after hers. (a bit like lickety's recurring one).

Very much so, was writing at work today and made a mistake but to my horror found there wasn't a rubber on the end of the pencil, nightmare

A hell of a lot.

Typing on an iPhone, I constantly hit the wrong keys, I type two both thumbs and go pretty quickly to be honest and any mistakes are corrected when I finish that word automatically.

I'd be forever going back and redoing things without it.

If I'm unsure of how to spell a particular word I use ma trusted dictionary. Trouble is, I sometimes get sidetracked and start looking at other words I've not heard of, and forget what I was supposed to be looking up in the first place

Always used to get into trouble at school because I used to see if I can't spell a word how can I look it up in a dictionary... think about it for a minute and then imagine looking up how to spell fizics as in the science

Thank you, it was a real birthday although the thread was a bit belated

Lickety didn't get a chance to do it on the day and felt bad.

Oh, forgot to say, I do 99% of my typing on ma pc, it's very rare that I use a phone for here. As I no longer need to drive, I have no use for any kind of Sat-Nav

I need spellcheck usually!! As I type really fast and without that I would have to correct each and every word which is cumbersome actually. But I feel the spell check as decreased my knowledge of spellings as I don't have to remember the whole spellings, so that way I am thinking of getting rid of it.

I now speak a lot to my tech, so any mistakes are made by the tech and not me

Dee V - glad you had a good one and had seen we were posting belatedly.
