Green Tea

I'm on attempt number 7,362 of trying to get rid of my last stubborn bit of belly flab. Last few years with a combination of running etc I've managed to lose 3.5 stone. If I hold my belly in I can look reasonable, but I can also look bad (to me) if pushing out.

Had a solid 6 pack for years, stopped smoking, ballooned.

Have any of you tried green tea? Does it work? How often do you have it? Or any other tips to reunite me with my six pack?

Green tea won't help you lose weight as such. But it is full of antioxidants which are for you. I'm sure other people will disagree but hey ho, this is my little bit.

I'm no expert, currently fighting my own battle with weightloss and exercise. They say the last bit is always the hardest to shift, and the tummy area being the worst bit. I don't really have any advice for you, sorry, just know your not alone in your battle. You've already lost 3.5 st, that's amazing, maybe just be happy with that.

anyway, good luck

Thanks Poppy, it is a hard battle lol that's for sure.

I read Green Tea and apples make you metabolise faster or something like that. Also trying to eat less, and cutting down on carbs. Went for a 7.5k run today and the carbs cut has definitely cost me energy as I ran a route I've completed before without stopping and today had to get a rescue lift I was shattered.

Having said that, watching the match tonight I'll probably have about 6 bottles of Stella

Is it a once a day thing then? Or are you supposed to have it instead of your usual cuppa?

Green tea won't make one hit of difference but not eating carbs will.

Bloody hell £100 a pop! I'm a Yorkshireman and I've just sweated out 3lbs at the thought of spending that. I nearly had a heart attack at £1.25 for 25 tea bags.

Well, that's OK to disagree, it's what makes the world go round after all

I eat less that 20g a day and have done for 9 years. Bananas are about 70% sugar so completely out of my food intake. Watch those dates, most are coated in sugar and the calorie in V calories out theory has been recently blown out if the water.

I lost eight stones eating cream, butter, lard, protein, cheese and veggies (amongst other things) and it gave me the body you see in my pictures, still does.

There is little potential for green tea to help someone lose weight, without other changes, imo.

If you have a balanced diet then you should have all of the vitamins that your body needs to function healthily, whether antioxidants or not. I'm guessing that research conducted in double blind trials wouldn't find significant weight loss.

Shhhh, that won't make the manufacturers rich...

I like green tea.

I think if you drink it in lieu of other more unhealthy drinks it has the potential to help you lose weight but that's about it.

I did find this from an abstract of some years ago -

'The GT group became more hungry over time and less thirsty, and showed increased prospective food consumption compared with PLAC (P0·05). Taken together, the ingestion of GT along with a LED had no additional benefit for any measures of body weight or body

composition. Although the decrease in REE as a function of fat-free mass and fat mass was not significant with GT treatment, whereas it was with PLAC treatment, no significant effect of treatment over time was seen, suggesting that a robust limitation of REE reduction during a LED was not achieved by GT.'

Diepvens, K., Kovacs, E.M., Nijs, I.M., Vogels, N. and Westerterp-Plantenga, M.S., 2005. Effect of green tea on resting energy expenditure and substrate oxidation during weight loss in overweight females. British Journal of Nutrition, 94(06), pp.1026-1034.

Tony - your body looks great, so I had to fab some of your pics. Is there some element of your 'excess' that's looser skin, rather than it being fat?

Because our basal metabolic rate reduces, as we lose weight, we're kind of up against a moving target. We have to consume less, just to keep our weight static - I'm sure you know all of this, as your significant weight loss shows your expertise.

Targeted weight loss isn't likely to happen imo, it will go from wherever it does.

I drink Green and Chai Teas to stop me drinking coffee.

I burn more calories per day than I replace and I exercise daily.

Yes I am an ex semi pro boxer and martial artist but no I no longer live in the gym.

Getting a washboard stomach is one thing, maintaining it is another battle.

Stay away from sugar, carbonated juices ie etc cake, biscuits etc

Eat plenty of veg especially greens, chicken, fish and try to eat one source if red meat per week.

Big Mac is not red meat and fries are not the type of veg I mean either

Thank you LL, not so bad yerself

"Exercise daily especially the abs"

I think I need to do more, problem is my abs are strong as anything. I did 210 sit ups the other day and hardly felt it, I get bored more than I get tired. When I used to train for competition karate we used to hook our feet under a partner's armpits and do vertical sit ups like that....I'll have a magnificently strong six pack, just under the layer of flab lol.

LOL can relate to that.

Only way to shift the fat then is more cardio. Run, walk, cycle or swim as well as ab exercise.

Have you tried any fat burners, not sure if they work to be honest as always relied on old fashioned hard work.

I haven't read all posts. Sorry if im repeating.

Green Tea is TEA. It's just a younger leaf.

White Tea is younger than green.

NOW............ Let's use our brains.

If drinking Green Tea caused weight loss...... we'd all be thin.

The End.

P.S. I do love a Green Tea. And Im a porker but maybe you're not supposed to have it with a custard slice.

T is T.
