You don't heal hate with hate!
I support the Welsh team because I'm British, I support England because I was born in England. It's part and parcel of sporting rivalry to have loyalties but I recognise wider connections. I'm also European and if the situation should arise then I'm an earthling too...
My principle loyalties don't preclude my wider ones. As such I'm fully behind the Welsh team tonight |

As a proud England fan I'm used to being hated, football, cricket, rugby... England are the bad guys of international sport, it's how it goes. |

I'm fully with happinesswill on this one. And it was beautifully said. Plus, if the Welsh did hate the English I wouldn't physically exist as a mixed Brit. The shagging necessary to create me wouldn't have happened. |

P.s.
I would just like to say,I find it offensive being labelled as "someone who hates the English". Also the majority of Welsh people I know don't either.
I just judge people at face value irrespective of where they were born. You are either a twat or your not is my philosophy.
Some pretty hot and sexy English people on our friends/hotlist.
Don't stereotype us please.
Anyhow back to the celebrations. Enjoy your night everyone.
Peace and love.

There's plenty of Wales fans who are happy to support England, that's nonsense.
Very few Welsh people hate the English. Some want English sporting teams to do badly, but it's not the same thing.
For oldies like me, the cancellation of the Home internationals rankled a lot. It had probably had its day, but there was a strong perception that England felt the opposition wasn't good enough (guess who won the last game!). Not saying we were right, but that was the feeling.
The imbalance in the media coverage is a big factor. For years I used to watch Football Focus for years and it was always an in-depth analysis of Glenn Hoddle's toenails and then at the end it'd be " The other home nations are also in action this weekend". Every time.
In fairness, it's understandable, as the biggest audience is English, but it did make you feel an afterthought. Even in today's Guardian (I believe in the Union, so I read the papers that cover the whole UK), the front page of the sport section is a story on England.
Actually, it'd be fairer to England to have its own English sport and news output - it's hard for the Londin based media, who have to notionally cover the whole UK to strike a balance.
I thought the players' celebrations after the Iceleand game was a bit silly, but you have to realise that their phones would have been red-hot with fellow players and Englsih friends giving the stick afte lost 2-1. This is the first chance ever to repay some of the stick Wales
fans have received. My English friends used to send me postcards from well round the whole world.
Don't get me wrong, it's still silly stuff and I'm happy to support England. It might not feel like it, but msny Wales are happy to do similar.
