I saw an FAQ about this, suggest you go into them and click on it and follow instructions. But of course, you don't have to publish it.

You only show the verification if you accept it.

I didn't accept it and is not displayed but still shows as being verified by him

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

There's usually a report icon. Go to the profile and report from there if you can't find one with the verification.

It is shown only to you in the first instance - until you accept it. You can decline it.

There is no "accept" button for verifications.

It's not a friends request.

Contact admin using the report profile button and they will remove it.

It's happened to M on her profile a couple of times now.

Go to Account/Verifications and select the "Don't show on profile" for the particular verification. Problem solved.

Do you deliberately not read replies fully or just choose to ignore what others put?

If a verification is false or a mistake then Admin will remove it. It doesn't belong there.

Choosing not to show it does not take away from the fact that it still shows in the overall number.

Telling the OP to just hide it is a joke and very poor advice.

You Dont Need to Know, right now

"Yes if you block them it removes verification x"

I don't think that's quite true. If you block someone, then the text of verifications can't be displayed. And anyone can choose not to display the text of any verification they have received. However, the verification remains in the "count" ("summary") of verifications.

Since the OP has never met the person who verified her (and evidently feels strongly about this), the correct solution is for her to report the fake verification to the site Admins. They are the only people who can completely remove a fake verification.

You should always report any underhand activity. Of course you should.

But you can elect not to display a fake verification as well. Then no one can see who made the verification or the text. The OP has a few verifications and one more in the numbers list is not a big deal. I'm not sure why numbers matter to be honest.

It doesn't totally remove the text, but it prevents them from displaying it, so it might as well not be there (just be careful, if unblocking).
