I really don't see the issue with the word 'Paki'. It simply implies that someone is from Pakistan.

Also would like to add that I'm British with an Indian background, and just because you're brown, it doesn't mean you come from Pakistan.

Americans, Yanks. French, Froggies. Italians, Spix. Germans, Krouts. Polish, Poles and would you believe it Pakistani people Paki's. Non of these terms are meant to sound derogatory or racist, it's just the same as others calling me me Taff or Wooly Back! But I never use the 'N' word, that's just not nice.

I had it today on the street too. I haven't had that P word thrown at me on the street for many, many years. The vehemence of being told that me and all the the Pakis will be sent home now was a little shocking.

I'm sorry to hear that you experienced this but really glad it wasn't on here.

I have never had it used as a descriptor (which would be inaccurate in my case anyway). It has only ever been used in my hearing as an attack.

You are wrong. We are both old enough to remember skinheads shouting Paki out and such like. Little kids intimidated because of the colour of their skins and casual racism that was part of life back in the seventies and eighties.

Times have changed, language has changed and to keep using language that someone else finds offensive can't be acceptable.

I think much like nigger and wog it is hard to argue that Pakistan isn't generally used as a racist insult. Not least as many of the people called it will be from places other than Pakistan.

And there is also the matter of context. I suspect you don't call random people in the street raff or paddy do you?

i still hear the term paki shop on a regular basis, all races seem to have a name, i work with dutch, cloggies or insult swamp rat, germans krauts or hun. south africans yarpies, faulkland islander bennies, list goes on. in the states we are limeys, we get insulted as well but not on a grand scales
