I have just discovered that I'm eligible for an Irish passport, because my mother was born in Ireland, even if she hadn't, my grandparents were born in Ireland so that qualifies me to become an Irish citizen.
Not that I could possibly move to Ireland though, those who know how I feel about Irish women will understand that I'd never get anything done lol, I'd Gerta reputation for being a total man slag, I'll stay this side of the water, where I can keep my reputation in tact lo!  |

I don't think you can get one through your grandparents being Irish, I looked into it!
One other thing, Irish passports only put your name on, and not your title.
So no chance of 'gender offence'
For any of TG people on here, and all you vicars, lords and ladies will be treated the same as the rest of us! |

I've got duel Irish/British passport thanks to being born in northern Ireland, Irish father British mother!.
I've never lived in Ireland but I might consider it one day! |

Since brexit lots of false info (surprise surprise) is popping up in line about how to change your citizenship and passport.
Sounds like you researched it properly. Good luck to getting one. I've been looking into it too. Time to GTFO for me. |

How would it? Surely a British passport will still enable access the same way it does today? Perhaps there will be visa requirements for some counties that don't require them at present but I don't understand how leaving the EU will devalue a British passport? |

 I think its important to put things into perspective we are leaving the union not pulling up anchor and leaving the continent.  |

There's been a surge of people recently with Irish heritage
I can understand if you travel a lot / live in another European city but for the likes of Joe Bloggs who goes to the Costa deal Sol for a fortnight once a year, WTF is that all about.
Takes a Brexit for people to start suddenly embracing being "European", something they chose not to do in the last 40+ years. |

Travel in Europe on a British passport will probably still be pretty easy, similar to visiting Thailand for example."
Exactly its early days yet, reciprocal agreements will be put in place like we do for the rest of the world. It's in the interests of certain EU countries to work with us, not against us. |

Thanks for the clarification however, I knew exactly why i was voting in.
However what has happened has happened. Having worked in and travelled extensively to Europe and between European countries i fail to see the issue in having a British passport. If i now need a working visa to work in a member state then so be it. My British passport will still allow me free and unhindered passage (all be it in a different line with an equally scary looking border guard :p) when i'm visiting for pleasure. Also, there are lots of border areas where no "check points" exist and nobody gives a damn who's passing over them (Western Netherlands/Germany, Italy/France and Switzerland in the Alps for example). |

Well a fun thread designed to point out I like Irish ladies has turned into an EU thread.
I've decided I'm not meeting a gone off the forums, because everyone's turning into Howard walowits, no mater the subject, it gets turned around to talk about space, well this is thee same

I may go and live abroad again. Parliament would have to vote for an exit, invoking legislative changes and submit article 50, which would still give 2 years of eu membership from that point. We may never rescind free movement of people to the UK, in which case it doesn't make any difference. |

Because you won't have free movement if you're on a British passport.
Those of us with Irish passports can live and work anywhere in the EU.
That won't be true of Brits. |
