With this decision he can't be classed as the greatest player ever. He needed to win the world cup to be up there with Pele and Maradona in my opinion.

For me Maradona was the greatest ever as he just about single handedly (pun intended) won the world cup in 86

I don't think he will go through with it, he's only 29 and has another World Cup in him. It's just his disappointment talking right now

I hope he does retire so he can concentrate on helping Newcastle get back into the premiership when Rafa signs him next week

He'll come out of retirement once the wc qualifiers are over and Argentina have qualified
