I feel the North held the decisive vote here. I voted in but can understand their anger as successive governments have failed to deliver on their promises to level the economic benefits around the country.

What sayeth the floor?

Scotland will be out the door in a flash. Although it's slightly ironic that the only part of England that agreed with them is their old enemy London!

I don't like the comments on the other thread that inferred everyone who voted out were stupid or ill informed.

Both sides of the argument had people supporting them that are well informed, well educated, and not so, to infer everyone who voted a particular way is stupid is not correct. I will not say which way i voted but I hate the fact people are getting personal about this.

Yes I guess as London thought the same as its best to be in, I recon this is the last we see and know of GB, it wont be great Britain anymore, instead just England, what will happen to the union jack?

Nobody likes the EU anyway, it's hard to design a worse institution. The vote was between people that want to try again and again to reform it and those who give up and take a different path.

Those of us who voted to stay can't really say with objective certainty that it could have been reformed and anyone who liked it just the way it was is a bloody cretin!

Exactly, I voted in tune with my southern fairy neightbours but I can imagine if I was a northern monkey then I'd be pretty fed up now. It's been 8 fecking years since the financial crisis and most people in the EU have a lower standard of living now than before the crisis. Fact. Can't blame then for being pissed off about it.

One of the best quotes I heard from someone in Cornwall today (where we will be losing a lot of EU funding) was "Well, I voted out because I didn't think it would actually happen" Hmmm - How does the voting system work again

And now the SMP will use this as another excuse in which to have another Scottish referendum which has already caused several families to break apart, to do this again is unjust!

Once the referendum was announced there was always going to be some who were going to use their vote to have a go at Cameron because of the austerity..

and others maybe a small minority who knows just how many voted purely because of what they saw as Labours open door policy ( that those who have come in are working and contributing meant nothing), they are and will continue with some to be simply foreigners who have taken 'our jobs' (despite a lot of those jobs being available to all)..

there is a disenfranchisement with politics in this country which has been getting steadily worse as people feel that voting in local, national and European elections does nothing for them on the whole..

This one gave them a question that they felt their answer would be listened to, and it has and it should be respected no matter how one feels because that is democracy and any other alternative is not worth considering..

the ramifications and the consequences for a lot of us in this country may well be costly both socially and economically in the short term and beyond..

the Bank of England can only do so much QE and this decision could tip us back to the 08 crash scenario but that will have to be dealt with if it happens..

this is not 'sour grapes', i accept that this is a democratic decision and yes there is much not right about the EU as an organisation which has been due proper reform for a while..

yesterday we were in one camp or the other or were not going to bother..

today we are where we are and we my want to think about that ..

It's not an issue of calming down, it's just numbers. The £ was at a high when I moved here and had to buy it with my $, and now when I'm considering going back, my savings has the potential to tank when I could have avoided it by buying USD three months ago. Math.

Oh I'm not worried, I just don't understand the need to get personal 51.8% of those that voted voted out. Perhaps people should looked to the 28% of oeople who didnt vote and wonder why? Why didn't they vote, was it apathy, couldn't be bothered, not understanding etc. Not having a go at those who voiced their opinion.

We'll see. I don't know the answer to that, and neither to you. It's the speculation I could have avoided, along with the potential loss. Saying it may be up again in three months doesn't change the fact that I could have avoided gambling with my savings by changing it earlier.

While I would hate to see Scotland leave us (as it has a special place in my heart), I wonder whether - at least economically - it would be a good thing for them.

In any event, I don't think the EU will be around in 10 years time.

In this referendum 62% of Scottish voters elected to stay in the EU, in 2014, 55% decided to stay in the UK.

The result in Scotland suggests to me that felt the bigger majority felt it was better for the UK as a whole to stay in the EU, just as the 2014 vote suggests the majority wish to stay in the UK.

The two are not mutually exclusive votes, I see no reason why another referendum should be held in the immediate future.

If Scotland did vote in another referendum and voted for independence, they would have to apply to the EU for membership, which takes years, with no guarantee of entry anyways. So what would happen then?

I don't like the result but it is what it is.

I hope Scotland go for freedom this time though.

I've seen quite a few Brexiters on Twitter shocked that we've left and now wishing they hadn't voted. How can people be so stupid?

But I'm glad the NHS is going to get an extra £350m a week. That's great

The same as what would happen now, we'll have to renegoiate for years with the EU for some sort of deal.

Oh come on and think about it, the SMP relied heavily upon the oil to keep Scotland running! And bloody look what has happened there, thousands of job loses, redundancies made right left and centre, Aberdeen is a very expensive place to live, but the only prices that have dropped are property, I know for a fact mine is worth at least 10% lower now than it used to, I have a friend whose husband has now been out of work for over 6 months so they are now just living off her salary, so your telling me they were speaking the truth in the drivel that we can sustain ourselves? And come on, for Remainers it's better to be on the attack than on the defensive.

From now on the EU isn't to blame for everything, Brexit is.

I've seen quite a few Brexiters on Twitter shocked that we've left and now wishing they hadn't voted. How can people be so stupid?

But I'm glad the NHS is going to get an extra £350m a week. That's great "

the nhs wont get 350m a week it was more a figure of speech that some people took as gospel. if wanted with the spare 350 it could go into the nhs but in reality they will het no where near that but will surely get more funding now than they ever have

Can Britain please chill the fuck out! I have to admit its embarrassing seeing some people who yesterday called for togetherness loosing their shit over this mornings result.

The country has spoken, regardless of age, race, IQ, social status, religion, we're leaving the EU together, deal with it!

I'm safe in the knowledge you make your own luck in this life and no good comes from living in fear. If any outcome of this referendum effects you long term then change it, simple as that, move to a different part of the country/world, switch jobs, start a new business, meditate, whatever, just use your fucking noggin!

Our foreseeable future is mapped out for us well in advance regardless of what choice we made yesterday. The majority of you will still be able to sit on your fat arse at the end of a hard days work making money, part of it which pays towards a corrupt agenda, tuck into your processed food, while being brainwashed with one eye on your financed 52" HD Television and the other surfing Facebook on your financed Apple Mac while you're drip-fed more political bullshit over the coming months aimed at dividing us even more!

Those with any amount of intellect will know as a nation it's time to stand together not fall apart.

We're all humans living on planet earth, some of us are leaving an imaginary border named the EU, so what, things will work out, they always do.

Voicing real concerns about potential consequences isn't living in fear. It's being pragmatic. There are concerns that will have to be taken into account by any person who cares about mitigation of risk, which is important in financial markets and trade deals.

Yes, we are all humans living on planet earth. Your comments about "the majority of [us]" only serve to further divide instead of heal. The victors should be gracious in victory.

Both sides of the argument had people supporting them that are well informed, well educated, and not so, to infer everyone who voted a particular way is stupid is not correct. I will not say which way i voted but I hate the fact people are getting personal about this.

I wouldn't worry about it, true colours are being shown....dummys are being well and try spat out..the bitterness is incredible...I think a lot of people should seriously consider relocating to somewhere in Europe."

The bitterness of the remainers is amazing but not at all surprising.

They loose the democratic vote.. And let's be honest it's how we've always done and people don't complain when their side win .. and then they start talking about this area voted that and that area voted this.

I don't think it's any coincidence that the remain side MPs were the ones who didn't want to have a referendum in the first place.

Surely in a democratic country it's your responsibility to go out and try to win that vote rather try to get it mothballed.

All sounds very EU to me.. Avoid democratic process where possible.

The margin might be small but i think I'd be more respected had it gone the other way especially from the response of the media such as the BBC who have done pretty much nothing but focus on negativity from the remain camp whilst barely reporting the response of those who actually won.

An EU loan was given so Ford could connect a smaller production facility on the South coast with their main factory in Turkey.

"it was more eu funding taking the factorys over seas

The EU has never provided funding to move a factory from Northern England overseas.

If you have a credible news link for it I'd love to read it.

http://m.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10020273.Ford_s___80m_EU_loan_to_boost_Turkey_factory___and_close_ours/

You said Northern factories.

Links please?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1326948/Twinings-jobs-set-to-Poland-tea-firm-lands-EU-cash.html

it all has knock on effect you narrow minded tool. look ahead rather than being in your own little bubble that is obviously contaminated with hatred

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/nov/06/shipyard-closure-announcement-and-pmqs-politics-live-blog

there you are another two. if you did the research yourself i wouldnt have to educate you

FAIL on both counts.

The Twinings factory was given £10m for development in the UK. When it was discovered they used the money to move jobs the money was taken back. You can read about it here:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tea-firm-twinings-stripped-of-10million-132619

As for the shipyards article, it clearly says the Thatcher government used EU structural funds, of their own accord, to close the shipyards instead of investing in them. So that was down the government of the day how they used that money and nothing to do with the EU.

My my, who's being educated now? "

Would any fool really in the real world want more spent than was economically viable at that moment??

Haven't we been there before when huge debt was run up a previous government.

Another campaign lie by leave

Well personally I'm looking forward to the 18% drop in house prices so we can get on the ladder

That needs interest rates to rise which causes repossessions. Really hope that doesn’t happen."

why not, some of us have savings that would benefit from good returns

Forgive me if I duplicate something that has already been said on this long Thread but ....

The UK has just had a lengthy, often heated, but thorough debate about the EU. Turnout was a resounding 72% nationally and a definite advantage was won by the 'Leave' side with a majority of some 1.4 Million and 4%. The result cannot be challenged on any democratic grounds.

However within that Scotland, N. Ireland and London voted to Remain but they also were three of four lowest turnouts. Where the SNP and Sinn Fein are distorting the debate for their Nationalist aims (which is politics) is that this was not a Constituency vote. It was a purely numerical vote with a national total. One side or the other could have won by ONE vote! Numerically the SNP have absolutely no grounds for demanding a second referendum. 1.7 million Scots voted Remain but then again 1 Million Scots voted Leave so Sturgeon banging on about 'every Scot' is bollocks. Whereas 17.4 Million Nationally voted to Leave. Ten times as many. It is neither right nor democratic for a small number of voters to dictate to the majority. Democracy doesn't work like that.

What the SNP are doing is raising a referendum smoke screen to distract Scots from their appalling performance in Government. A performance that last year meant the despised English subsidised the SNP Government to the tune of £15 Billion. Or £9,000 per 'Remain vote .... There is no case now, just as there was no case before, for an Independent Scotland.

As for N. Ireland Sinn Fein are playing with fire and know it. There is no need for Border Controls as we will revert to the previous CTA arrangements between the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands that existed since 1923.

As for the UK? We will do just fine once the media get bored with creating a story. Markets will find a new normality, the sun will rise in the East as before and manufacturers will continue to sell their goods. Anything else is now in the realms of UK domestic party politics .... THAT worries me.

A Prime Minister resigned. The £ plummeted. The FTSE 100 lost significant ground. But then the £ rallied past February levels, and the FTSE closed on a weekly high: 2.4% up on last Friday, its best performance in 4 months. President Obama decided we wouldn't be at the 'back of the queue' after all and that our 'special relationship' was still strong. The French President confirmed the Le Touquet agreement would stay in place. The President of the European Commission stated Brexit negations would be 'orderly' and stressed the UK would continue to be a 'close partner' of the EU. A big bank denied reports it would shift 2,000 staff overseas. The CBI, vehemently anti-Brexit during the referendum campaign, stated British business was resilient and would adapt. Several countries outside the EU stated they wished to begin bi-lateral trade talks with the UK immediately. If this was the predicted apocalypse, well, it was a very British one. It was all over by teatime. Tiffin anyone?

Both sides of the argument had people supporting them that are well informed, well educated, and not so, to infer everyone who voted a particular way is stupid is not correct. I will not say which way i voted but I hate the fact people are getting personal about this."

Hmmm...and I thought you said we were bezzies again.

Not to put too much of a downer on it because I've been defending the decision all day but what America will do to us pales in comparison to how China are going to f us in the a.

Don't say that, you'll burst the Brexit bubble!

I said it months ago. The remain campaign were idiots not to use it. All the talk was about "Oh Germany will still want to sell us their Audi's" - big fucking whoop. The two largest economies are bigger than the bottom 176 - go figure!

Anyway, "democracy, fuck yeah" "

To be honest, the economy won with the people it was going to win with...as you've observed yourself, to people who have very little, the prospect of the country doing even worse is essentially meaningless.

They just don't realise how much worse it is possible to get.

It's not an issue of calming down, it's just numbers. The £ was at a high when I moved here and had to buy it with my $, and now when I'm considering going back, my savings has the potential to tank when I could have avoided it by buying USD three months ago. Math.

And a crystal ball really isn't needed, just some sense.

Here's more good news on the state of the UK economy just breaking, from International credit ratings agency Moody's:

"Moody's cuts outlook on UK debt to negative

Breaking news: Moody’s, the credit rating agency, has just lowered the outlook on Britain’s credit rating to negative from stable.

It says that Britain’s economic growth will be weaker, following the EU referendum vote. It also warns the the public finances will be weaker than previously forecast, meaning it will be harder to cut the deficit.

Moody’s says that the Brexit vote will herald a “prolonged period of uncertainty” for the UK, with negative implications for growth in the medium terms.

And it also warns that the effectiveness of economic policymaking could be ‘somewhat diminished’ by the decision.

A negative outlook means there is a greater danger of a country being downgraded.

It’s three years since Moody’s cut Britain’s AAA rating. It currently has the UK on AA+, the second highest rating.

This morning Standard & Poor’s, the only firm that Britain still on triple-A, warned that it is likely to downgrade Britain."

But don't worry, you get a blue passport now!

here is some more breaking news for you:

In 2015 we managed a mutual trade of some $114 Billion. We have to charge 10% import tariffs as we are in the EU (just) but we can ditch those. They only charge us 2.5%. So do tell us what queue we are going to be in let alone at the arse end of because the UK already has a Bilateral Trade Agreement with the USA.

This is the total bullshit we have been getting from the Remainers. We export all over the world on agreements we the UK have arranged. Not the EU. Indeed we have better terms for our Commonwealth countries than the rest of the EU. Canadian Trade Agreement takes 7 years? Does it hell. We already have one.

Oh no we could end up like Norway,Sweden, Australia or god forbid Switzerland oh hang on haven't they all got better standards of living than us yes they have"

Yeah, Switzerland is sitting on a fortune in gold, we're not.

And you do realise they're in Schengen, don't you? No passports or border controls, right? Er, you don't? Then you probably voted for Brexit.

If withdrawing from a union comes with no economic consequences then there'll be nothing to stop Scotland going indy.

I'm assuming the British tabloids will be in support of that, they like deomocracy and freedom after all.

So do tell us how suddenly the Scots are going to manage to survive with oil at $45 a barrel? We English underwrote a Scottish deficit of £15 Billion in 2015 so who pays for that?

Oh and by the way Ireland is already independent....

I mean don't let reality get in the way of your depressing rubbishing of our great country. If you don't like the UK the door is over there -----

I love the UK, it's about 17 million of the people I have to share it with who I can't stand. I might be rubbishing the country, but you lot have ruined it.

You should be ashamed."

Nah .. I am damned proud we had the courage to tell the Eu to f**k off at last and the little people told the vested interests, banksters and elite where to shove their ideas.

If being in the EU was so great why did 17 million of us want to leave? Some of us actually believe in our country. Some have served it. All of us seem to trust the British people more than people like you who want us to be subsumed under a bureaucratic, unelected monstrosity that has a flag, 5 Presidents, an anthem, a failed currency, is destroying Southern Europe on a daily basis, has 10% of its population unemployed and now wants a bloody army...

Please don't tell us you in any way love our country when you think that is a great idea ...

People laugh at North Korea with it superior rhetoric and talk of taking on the free world . We laugh at their pomposity of being a rouge state we laugh at the ruling dynasty and cult of personality worship .

I have just been reading metro online

"People are already regretting voting to leave the EU – here’s what they told us"

Comments such as:

‘I feel sick and wish we remained.

‘lied to and deceived’.

Meanwhile on Twitter, dozens shared their regret at backing Brexit:

Not gunna lie I strongly regret voting to leave the eu.

I voted leave to help our economy. However the £ has plummeted and I immediately regret my decision ??. Plus Farage is a lying tosser

Those are just some comments, the regrets seem to come in now.

It's always amusing when people who are angry at political elites and vested interests vote to give Michael Gove, Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and a Tory government of Old Etonians the chance to make up our laws from scratch.

You'll be getting a real laugh out of that one in five years time, believe me.

"Once the referendum was announced there was always going to be some who were going to use their vote to have a go at Cameron because of the austerity..

and others maybe a small minority who knows just how many voted purely because of what they saw as Labours open door policy ( that those who have come in are working and contributing meant nothing), they are and will continue with some to be simply foreigners who have taken 'our jobs' (despite a lot of those jobs being available to all)..

there is a disenfranchisement with politics in this country which has been getting steadily worse as people feel that voting in local, national and European elections does nothing for them on the whole..

This one gave them a question that they felt their answer would be listened to, and it has and it should be respected no matter how one feels because that is democracy and any other alternative is not worth considering..

the ramifications and the consequences for a lot of us in this country may well be costly both socially and economically in the short term and beyond..

the Bank of England can only do so much QE and this decision could tip us back to the 08 crash scenario but that will have to be dealt with if it happens..

this is not 'sour grapes', i accept that this is a democratic decision and yes there is much not right about the EU as an organisation which has been due proper reform for a while..

yesterday we were in one camp or the other or were not going to bother..

today we are where we are and we my want to think about that .."

The problem with that view is as a country we have practically zero influence over what happens. We are now in the position of begging other countries to help us out.

What do Brexiters think is going to happen, you can run outside tomorrow with a John Bull t-shirt on, roll up your sleeves and save the economy?

We've been fucked over, things will only get worse for us socially, economically and culturally, and all because people are too stupid to think for themselves.

And that's the optimistic view on things.

Yes . We will have a much stronger economy and be free of European controls . Energy prices may drop because we not have to adhere to the various EU green packages .

We have a strong car industry and some leading research and technology companies .

Maybe speak to those who actually run successfully companies and provide employment . Lord Bamford is a good example.

We have a great future to look forward to and we can now ignore some of the human rights legalisation that helps criminals .

In addition we can now hopefully control immigration .

Today is a turning point in the history of Britain .

With a Conservative government voted in by more voters than any other party and the majority of residents in the UK wanting to leave the UK . the future not only looks bright, it looks great .

Do you know what else is partly responsible for all this? All those twee fucking 'Great British Such and Such' type TV programmes and the mainstream popularity of that dreadful faux 'Vintage' aesthetic.

First it was cupcakes and bunting, then policemen with handlebar moustaches and 'Armed Forces Day' the next thing you know the right have taken the country back 60 years and we are culturally as well as politically moribund as a 1970s Sunday afternoon

Well if there aren't any Trade Agreements in place how did we manage to export some 56% of our total exports and earn a nett surplus of some £27 Billion in export trades to non EU countries? (While running a £61 Bn deficit with the 44% that go to the EU)

Not read much of the thread so apologies if I'm repeating anything.

We both voted out. My reason (Mr) was nothing to do with the pros and cons as I believe both sides spewed BS and made promises that as usual sound great but I have no reason to believe that that will ever be fulfilled.( these are politicians FFS!) one of The problems I have is with the out campaigns 'leaders'. Boris and Nigel are complete idiots, plain and simple and to back the out campaign is basically saying I agree with them and that can never happen! And also , there are to many morons spouting on about immigration as te reason to leave. I'm not happy with our current policies but not daft enough to use that as an excuse to run blindly off the cliff edge expecting and soft landing at the bottom! Anyway night all.

I for one think showing our respect for the people who go in harms way to protect us from those would kill us on that one 'Armed Forces Day' a year is an absolutely brilliant idea. I think of it as a duty to show my respect.

I do both. Armed Forces Day to show my respect for those currently serving and the 11th November for those who gave their lives and the veterans .... I don't think 2 days out of 365 is too much to ask and it is sad you seem to think showing respect is something to ridicule.

I hope Scotland go for freedom this time though.

I've seen quite a few Brexiters on Twitter shocked that we've left and now wishing they hadn't voted. How can people be so stupid?

But I'm glad the NHS is going to get an extra £350m a week. That's great

the nhs wont get 350m a week it was more a figure of speech that some people took as gospel. if wanted with the spare 350 it could go into the nhs but in reality they will het no where near that but will surely get more funding now than they ever have

I'm sure we were told it'd be spent on the NHS. That's what I'm expecting. "

I do not think anyone is too worried over this figure . Just think of the savings when we clamp down on health tourists and misuse of the NHS .

Proud to be British and that the UK showed the world what a free society is about.

Just ashamed of the remainers how much they moan like the democrats do over here when things dont go their way.

Guess it will be pointless sit ins like dems over here did this week.

The UK has always been a world leader and a strong economy. Now is the time to show that strength and leadership
