Unilever is going to make its ads less sexist, after years of research tells them that we don't like it.
The maker of Linx, Dove and other products vows to be using less stereotypes.
Less dumb men in ads who can't clean etc? Less women looking after kids and cooking? Women with jobs portrayed that aren't usually seen? |

I've noticed recently more people of colour in adverts, mixed race relationships as well. I think it's a good thing the the population of the country today is represented on TV, even if it's only adverts at this stage. |

Film and television are massively skewed towards white men - if our population was made up of those percentages it would flounder! (only approximately 11% of films show a fifty fifty split of men an women). Advertising seems to be upping it's game recently but the sexualisation of (mainly) women when they are being used to sell a non sexual product is still appalling. |

That is not indicative of the whole country, only certain larger town and cities |

Well 14% of the UK population are people of colour, I think you have to live somewhere quite remote to have 100% of the population as white these days. |

It seems a self perpetuating misery that women will buy more products when they see women advertised using those products.
Products with men advertising them get fewer sales. Women are responsible for 80% of decisions on household expenditure.
These adverts are not necessarily sexist, they are simply doing a job to get people to buy stuff.
I agree that there should be more balance in these adverts, but we are the ones who can illicit change by voting with our feet. Stop being susceptible to stereotypes if you don't like them. |

2 years of research told them that we don't want the sexist stereotypes.
It remains to be seen if unilver actually change much in their tv, print and other ads. I can imagine we'll get a lot more of the same. |

Fully agree and this site clearly hows that. Which people get all the hits and messages? Attractive women who display scantily clad pictures of themselves in sexual positions... fact of life and its about time woolly liberals that's the way it is ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |
