I'm glad that you've had your opinion changed but up until that point what did you think? That people were just sad and being dramatic?

Just because you can't see something doesn't make it untrue. Depression wrecked my marriage, blighted my life and stole away the woman that I married and my kids mother. If you want to see if it's true come and talk to me.

And what do you mean what do others think? If you believe that it's real surely you should be fighting against the ignorance not taking a straw poll

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

This is really worth listening to:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07pj2pw

The Inflamed Mind explores the work on autoimmune diseases as a cause of depression and treatments using anti-inflammatory drugs rather than anti-depressants.

I suffer from depression. It's like I'm locked inside my head. I have no friends nobody helps me. I message others they push me away. I so lonely if only someone would say to me that they liked me. And wanted me it would make such a difference. Ed.

How would you go to the doctors when you can't bring yourself to leave the house?

See if your doctor will refer you to Talking Therapies or some other counselling. What about looking online for social groups in your area, there's a website called meet ups which has a whole load of different groups and societies for all sorts of different hobbies. That might be a good way of getting to meet people?

Good luck xxxx

Because, and I know, it's either that or wallow in self pity to the point you do something stupid.

Saying no one wants to help is just that. We have a cracking NHS in comparison to some countries. Help is out there if one is prepared to help themselves.

I'm guessing u never suffered with depression. It's not as easy as picking up the phone and telling someone. It's an awful thing for someone to gave to go through. Especially when they feel their is no one they can talk too.

You seem to have struck a good friendship with a couple on here. Celebrate that and use it as a stepping stone to more. Get some professional help and enrol in an evening class.

Good luck

I first became Ill with depression/anxiety nearly a decade ago after a series of emotional and physical setbacks within a relatively short span of time..... I went from a happy confident man to an almost empty shell, meds worked to a point but it was down to me to drag myself up again and i had the wonderful help of friends and my ex who were and still are amazingly helpful and protective of me...... if it wasn't for them then I wouldn't be here today

little house on the praire

Im bipolar, i have my illness controlled as well as i can.

Today has been a typical day for me.

Got up, felt sick

Sat for about an hour till my meds from last night had settled.

Can speak with no slurring or dropey mouth (good day)

Couldnt get in the shower so had another coffee.

Forced myself in the shower got dressed went out.

Talked "at" my mum for a couple of hours (had gone a bit hypo)

Came home, burst into tears and wanted to go to save the children.

Stopped crying

Trying to start the housework.

This is a typical day for me.

But i live round my illness not through it. Im away at the end of the week so next week will be a bad week.

Understanding your illness and working with it is the key but unfortunatly it doesnt happen overnight. Having bipolar is an ongoing battle every day of your life. Its very challenging

Mind ... is a good organisation to contact to speak to someone ... sometimes a complete stranger is easier to talk to than your GP ....

They are far more equipped and trained ...

I have gone through that myself. It is a big step admitting you have it and putting your hand up for help. Nothing wrong with it at all and takes a brave person to do so. Your doctor can put you in touch with therapies and advice groups.
