If brexit went ahead, with the several years of continued free movement of people going ahead, whilst we negotiate terms of exit, how does this impact upon housing?
Some Europeans come here and buy houses, others rent. Will less buy homes and more rent instead, if we're not staying as an EU member? How will rents fare? |

The housing benefit bill will soar. There is going to be another 50,000 people in my Borough alone in the next 4 years. The population has been increasingly rapidly for about a decade,with every available space being built on. The rent on a new 3 bedroom flat is £180 per week,in one of the cheaper London Boroughs through affordable renting. One of my friends pays £1,744 per month for a 2 bed flat in Clapham,another has seen a £300k increase in the value of his flat over the last 4 years. How anyone on less than average wage can afford to rent privately or buy I don't know. |

We don't really know.
The private sector only builds when they know the market is very buoyant.
As a poster above said, government policy has been about keeping house prices high for so long.
If demand falls, people could find themselves in a lot of negative equity.
If the BoE have to put up interest rates a lot of home owners could be in trouble too. It's a scandal that they've kept them artifically low for so long. |

Hmmm I see... So rather than inward investment which would create jobs and attract young folk to Scotland, the plan is to let it devolve into the UKs retirement home?

Problematic, that's an understatement!.
Farmland had started to raise about 1 million an acre recently, so if your 150 acre farm is close to the border, whooohoo your rolling in it.
Of course it's all bollocks, the average 4 bedroom house is now priced at 270,000 pounds despite it only having a build cost of 70k and lowly farmland coming in at 20k an acre.... Because it's a manipulated market, nobody and no government is going to build lots of houses, just forget that promise because if they do, you'll crash the market, it's a supply and demand made market, they control supply and demand!.
Why do you think there getting all uperty about EU immigration... That's there hold demand!.
Control of the banks, councils policy and interest rates! That's there control of supply..
It's one of the many contradictions, there'll say they want a competitively waged economy and then they push up house prices to the point where you need to earn 40k just to buy a cheap one!
