So, I was going through the full body scanner twice this week and no alarms went off 'cos I don't have any piercings.

But what about you ladies? How does it work if your clit piercing triggers the alarm? Does the ensuing body rub down/up really check your most intimate parts? I can't believe it does but then again can they really let someone through security without properly finding out what bit of metal caused the alarm?

I can assure you that if you were wearing a stainless steel button plug through security you would definitely be embarrassed!

I don't think there's enough mass of metal in a small bar or ring to set off an alarm.

Cuffs in your carry on however....

Hello all,

I have 5mm diameter nipple ring and a 3.2 diameter frenum ring and I do not set off the scanners in the airport.

It's probably random beeps and then when they have to use the handheld scanner you're laid bare!!!

I go through a scanner every day at work, sometimes two or three times and the only things that have a bearing on whether I go off is what bra or trousers I'm wearing. My 3 piercings never come out so it can't be them.

I've gone through security with pierced nipples, clit hood, lip, tongue and 2 x navel piercings before, and the detector didn't go off.

They're mainly looking for a magnetic response, which will be stronger with iron based jewellery. The full body image scans will pick up everything in greater detail as an image.

Sounds like these scanners don't work. I'm going to start a national airport safety campaign demanding that all piercings be visually and physically checked by an approved pervert ... Er policeman.

They detect certain amounts of metal usually that small isn't an issue.

again....near daily frisks at work and not once have the wands indicated on my nipples. the main thing that sets them off are bra clips or trouser buckles etc.

It may be that your piercings are stainless steel. It has a very weak magnetic response compared to mild steel such as in bra wire.

Mind you , regular steel piercings could make for fun with a strong magnet
