Can you describe the events of last night as they happened? How much fighting was there?

So go on then, describe what the tv people are saying.. Don't forget the 'we're not sure why the police attacked' quotes I heard from journalists this morning ..
From the pictures you've seen, how much fighting / violence from the England fans?
Boorish behaviour yes .. But violence? Only from the police with batons ..
Don't get me wrong - I'm not condoning d*unken loutish behaviour and think that some fans over drinking really don't help themselves but I'm still waiting to see in the press what caused the police to wade in with tear gas and batons last night? What was the incident? Nobody in the press or on social media who were there seems to know?
Genuine question... |

Are the police only attacking British fans, or is the same thing happening to the fans of all the countries?
If its happening too all the fans, its probably an issue with the French police.
If its only happening to British fans, then it's probably because of their behaviour. |

There has been trouble with lots of fans - the English press only sensationalise trouble with the English. The official UEFA statement said they regret the skirmishes last night but the security forces quickly regained order and control. Hardly the Armageddon you'd think from the news hey? Watch the tv pics, beyond a couple of d*unk louts being boorish what can you actually see? |

"You're obsessed OP. No-one condones violence but labelling every fan and calling for bans is ludicrous. Try being a bit more objective if you can "
Totally agree with you, yet he is just doing what most people do, regarding the immigrant debate.
Yes there is a minority who comes over to take advantages of our system yet they are labbeling every immigrant of doing so.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds) |
Kicking the team out doesn't mean the 'fans' would leave as well. . I can't see how throwing them out of this tournament would solve anything.. |

We wonder if the OP would condone the banning of single guys from clubs and events because of the few that aren't polite and respectful??? |

I can see that it's not just English fans starting trouble but it looks to me that you're horrible history of football hooliganism is catching up on you
The French cops and other fans expected you to come mob handed because that's what you have done at most tournaments
Unfair, yes a bit. But understandable |

They won't kick any team out because of trouble on the street...they have no jurisdiction there, hence the suspended elimination for Russia only applies to trouble in the stadium.
Seen a video this morning of England fans throwing coins at immigrant children. Thats low. |

It's the French police. It's the way the EU tell them how to respond...I think it's in a policy directed by Brussels headed by Mertle entitled... How to handle dissenters... brace yourselves... |

I don't see why the team should be kicked out if fans misbehave.
In the stadium it was the Russians causing trouble not helped by rubbish segregation.
Apparently the Welsh and English fans are all getting on well at the moment so hopefully it will stay that way.
As always it seems that a minority misbehave but everyone gets punished

There was a good interview on breakfast TV yesterday with a specialist in mob culture and a fan who returned after the trouble where the Russian mobs (with street maps) went on the rampage. Did others see it?

All I saw were England fans getting away from Russian hooligans, getting to a police line and without any wrongdoing whatsoever pepper sprayed in the face and forced back towards the Russians.
Bit of a rock and hard place.
Seems the French method of policing is like the British police did in the 80s which started more trouble than it stopped. Modern British football policing is far far more advanced than the French baton charge and pepper spray approach. |

television is wonderful.... but apparently it doesn't tell the entire story...
.........because lille police have confirm that nobody arrested after 11pm local time last night was english...or welsh....
and that they had more arrests last night from locals celebrating their win (which is where the pictures of the flares going off and being chucked came from) and russian fans....... |

Will you please stop confusing everything by quoting facts and using common sense and balanced views. That simply will not do! |
