Is having no religion in fact being religiously not religious. Therefore having a belief in something which is contradictory to specific religions and therefore clearly having what is logically defined as a religion?

Glastonbury

I was listening to the Today Programme on the radio one time and they had a bishop giving a long-winded and worthy account of why we should take God into our hearts.

Then cut to Richard Dawkins who says:

"I don't see why we should listen to the bishop just because he has an imaginary friend!"

So here's the thing.....

I think you'd need pretty small minded to be adamantly resolute that considering all the diversity on our planet magnified by all the things in the known universe, magnified again by all the wonders yet to be discovered in and beyond our own universe, we couldn't possibly stumble upon the existence of something we can't prove with science .....

Which is why I'm good with not knowing...

But I envy people who find comfort in religion...

So this God chap supposedly created the earth and everything on it in a week?...very impressive.

For me, all I need is for God to prove he exists, which should be comparatively easy. A simple gowned arm coming out of the clouds giving a thumbs up would be enough to convince me. I'd be straight down to the nearest church and start praying like a good un.

So come on God, gissa thumbs up...

Yes and they turn up to church just to listen to the banns being read or dare I say to get their children into a good faith school. Humans do what suits them best sometimes and faith can be fickle with it.

I understand why religion brings comfort to some people.

. That's right we don't know.

However let's look at what we do know or have discovered since not knowing.

The earth is round.

It's not the centre of the universe.

It didn't take a week to make.

All life evolved.

God didn't throw a blanket over the earth, it just turned 180 degrees.

Volcanoes aren't gods getting angry.

Neither are earthquakes or plagues of locusts.

A pox on you!... No longer means your cursed.

Dinosaurs?? Lived on earth for 350 million years before us!... You'd think that might have been worth mentioning in the good book.

And last but not least, belief is good but it don't beat antibiotics for clearing up a bit of pneumonia!

"

Yeah but lets face it on a scale measured against the vastness of all creation that list is quite paltry

I mean if you are not willing to conceive there are still things yet to be discovered and that some of those things might have origins beyond our present understanding you'd be basically admitting we've reached the limit of our potential.....

PS

I wasn't aware God wrote the Bible or indeed an religious publication to which mankind refers other than perhaps the Ten commandments...

But on that matter I could be wrong, as he's not yet admitted anything of that nature to me as an individual..

But that's not to say he won't do one day.....

"Doesn't matter.....

In the end they all end up visiting us.....

Is that an invite?

How do you know I haven't been there before? "

We keep a book.......

"I don't like people shoving religion down my throat.

I also don't like atheists shoving the fact they don't believe God exists down my throat either

Id also say the followers of the athiest religion are the biggest bores about it.

They can usually spell, are quite succinct and generally say bugger-all until the fundamentalists start their blather.

This thread was started by someone who is not religious. So the fundamentalists were quiet until spoken to.

That's a first then.

Not on this site it ain't.

'Tis, ner ner"

Yah boo sucks.

"Here's the thing......

We just don't know,,, . That's right we don't know.

However let's look at what we do know or have discovered since not knowing.

The earth is round.

It's not the centre of the universe.

It didn't take a week to make.

All life evolved.

God didn't throw a blanket over the earth, it just turned 180 degrees.

Volcanoes aren't gods getting angry.

.

The Qur'an was wrote by Mohammed who directly was spoken to by Allah.

The ten commandants were directly given to Moses by God.. I particularly find the jealous God one quite laughable, what sort of a supreme being gets jealous?.

No thanks it's not for me, it's mumbo jumbo bullshit of the highest order, just like emails from Nigeria telling me I've won the Nigerian lottery

That's a big assumption.

Oh I'm sorry, given the contents of your OP I just assumed you were not reigious. "

Like I said!

Just believe what you want and let others believe what they want it makes the the world a happier place - no need to argue about it you wont change someones beliefs

"Is just two people arguing over who's imaginary friend is best.

"

Worse, it's people claiming that the imaginary friend likes them more than the other person.

Like the Germans and the British in WW2 - bogged down in trenches in France - both praying to the same god for help in destroying the other side so they could win the war?

Makes no sense whatsoever

"Is having no religion in fact being religiously not religious. Therefore having a belief in something which is contradictory to specific religions and therefore clearly having what is logically defined as a religion?

I thought you were supposed to have all the answers anyway?

Almost apart from the female mindset which still befuddles me."

Even Jesus can't figure out the women!

Confirmed, the functioning and content of the female mind is among the greatest mysteries ever known to man!

I have mine. Others have theirs.

Quite honestly I couldn't care what religion others follow.
