Atheism requires effort to deny a god. I'll stick with being agnostic, happy to believe in any god whose existence is proved beyond rational doubt. And no, books don't count unless Harry Potter, a talking tank engine and Mr Tickle are actually real too!! |

An atheist doesn't actively deny a god or try to disprove any. Just has no belief in a higher being. |

An atheist doesn't actively deny a god or try to disprove any. Just has no belief in a higher being. exactly . Athiests just reserve the right not to as adults believe in invisible men and belief systems that incite bigotry and murder for their invisible mate . When was the last time an athiest banged on your front door and tried to convert you to not believing ? I get the delusional flock banging on my door and you can't get the police to stop these fucked up mentally feeble sheep from hounding you . To be an athiest is not the same as having a religion . Just choosing to question . "
Can't remember the last time someone religious knocked on my door. We do however get people like Richard Dawkins often berating religion and promoting his atheist views.
Bigotry:intolerance to those who hold a different opinion to you. Does the phrase mentally feeble sheep come under this?
And as for murder/war. Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot weren't known for being overly religious. |

That argument falls down on two points.
Firstly pol pot, Stalin or Hitler didn't wage war or murder people in the "name" of atheism, atheism is in fact a non belief, belief,.
Secondly pol pot was raised Buddhist and (catholic I think)
Stalin's mother was devoutly religious, he's named after St Joseph, his father was a priest and Stalin himself was religious as a young man.
Hitler was born and raised catholic most of the Nazi party were Catholics, one of them was never excommunicated despite his awful life deeds but was finally thrown out of the catholic church for... Yes divorce!.

nobody claims atheists never do awful things, but they dont do them because of atheism.
some religious people, who would consider themselves good and devout,do awful things in the name of their religions |
