Favourite band would be Stiff Little Fingers (very apt name for here!)
Favourite songs, Dancing in the street - Mick Jagger/David Bowie and Drive - The Cars |

As MsG constantly tells me, I'm stuck in the 80s musically and couldn't pick just one song or band that defines it for me, but to name a few...Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Housemartins, ABC, Prefab Sprout, early UB40, Dexys (pre-Come On Eileen being the preference), XTC....oh I could go on and on...and on!!
Mind you there was some absolute dross around then too...most of the Stock, Aitken Waterman catalogue for a start, Aussie soap stars playing at pop stars (with one exception!!)....and don't get me started on Black Lace!!

One of my favourite 80's songs was The Housmartins' Caravan of Love. A song like nothing else of the time.
Plus everything by Bonjovi, Def Leapord, Guns 'n' Roses, and all the other 80's cheeeeezy rock bands.

Should try and catch the real deal when they play their Xmas tour, or their Hose Of Common event on Clapham Common - still put on an excellent show.

"Depeche Mode - Enola Gay
Any songs of Culture Clubl"
Enola Gay was OMD, I think, but a great song. The Associates, Classix Nouveaux and Klaus Nomi were amongst my favourites - I loved the over dramatic New Romantic stuff. |

"Who remembers this great song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeZkLV3ZjeI"
Prefab Sprout were absolutely brilliant and much underrated - for me Paddy McAlloon is up there with the best songwriters there are -Steve McQueen still rates as one of my favourite albums of the 80s, if not all time.

Actually, to be really pedantic, whilst the song was originally released as part of The Specials first album, which WAS released in 1979 - the single (which is a live version of the song, not the same as the album version) was released in January 1980 and went to no. 1 in February of that year...so technically you're both right

My favourite band of the 80s is Soft Cell but I preferred Bedsitter to Tainted Love.
Japan's Life in Tokyo was another song I loved, I couldn't real name a favourite as there are so many great tunes.
Have always been a big fan of Siouxsie too |
