Bit late; but if you want the true story;
There is an authorised list of food flavourings.
The flavouring that gives the prawn cocktail is s chemical that was accidentally left off the list. So prawn cocktail crisps would not have been able to be sold
When it was realised, the chemical was added to the list, and voila! The problem went away .
Oh and Muslims can eat prawns (shellfish ) it is Jews who are forbidden shellfish .
