I like them and I am happy to pay the few pence a year they cost me. They are iconic figure heads and people all over the world live them and come to this country specifically to see them and all of.the trappings that go with them.

I love a bit of pomp and ceremony.

Isnt it being paid for by the £130 to £150 ticket fee with the proceeds going to charity?

The Queen has worked tirelessly all her life and is respected and loved across the world. She's never put a foot wrong in 64 years as monarch.

Additionally to that, the Royals generate hundreds of millions of pounds in tourism every year and when they visit other countries they generate millions more for those countries.

You are free to go and live in a Republic if it bothers you that much, there's quite a few to choose from, but I think you'll soon find yourself longing to come back to the UK and live under a monarchy.

You are of course aware the parade consists of representation from all the charities the Queen is a patron of... and they all seem happy to be there....

In reality though how often do you see a member of the royal family? People would still come, just as they go to Rome say, not to see the pope but for the history of the place.

That said, I do like the pomp and ceremony.

He beheaded a king. How is that bottling it?

The monarchy was restored after Cromwell's death because Cromwell's son Richard didn't have the confidence of the army.

How so?

Frace guillotined it's royal family and has far more tourists than we do.

If our biggest draw is a family of adulterers, misfits and idiots then we're a sorry excuse for a country.

Poor argument Pete, the old "you only support them cos your subservient" line is essentially a

cop out that says you don't know how to argue your point.

I very much doubt that tourism would be hit if they weren't around. Most people come to see Britain and seeing them puppets is just a "bonus"

I've only one thing too say to people who advocate the abolition of the monarchy...

Tough luck because it ain't gonna happen anytime soon....

But feel free to leave our shore and seek a new home in some far off land of homogenous mediocrity...

Don't forget to send a post-card when you get there,,, .....

Not sure why you think people should leave if you don't agree with it. We form part of democracy which the royals didn't create. But be a sheep if you feel the need to think someone is better than you

So just because we choose to like the monarchy like many others we are sheep but you can think like many others and not like them and you have a mind of your own? Interesting concept.

I don't think they are better than me but I do like them being the figure heads of our country.

So a head of state that get isn't elected but born into the right .. and yet we dont see this person as superior to us !

How and why are they fit to lead us simply because of there name .

Let's get rid of footballers instead. All those people throwing money away that could go to charity,to spend a couple of hours penned in a stadium,to watch a ball being booted about.

I have always thought of the royals as representatives of the country rather than leaders.

The theory that they just swan around doing nothing all of the time well how about living you're whole life in the public eye with every critisism thrown at you for any little slip up you might make.

I would say that's earning you way in this world
