To be fair, on this occasion it sites as if the Russians were the instigators but it's still pretty pathetic that people can't go to watch a football match without dragging the sport down.
As a sport I don't mind football, although I do prefer rugby. I would never go to a football match because of the fans. I know several people who are football fans bit take their children to watch rugby because the fans are more respectful and there is less bad language etc |

We all know that guy that manages to get in a fight most weekends but it's never their fault, this reminds me of them
I'm sorry if sone innocent supporter has got hurt and yes English fans probably aren't the protagonists this time but many of them are far from the innocents abroad that sone are trying to portray them as.

wrong most of the "hooligans " as we with club football dont go to games and are not there for football they have just attached them selves to go and have an organised rummble . many will have gone to marsias soley to get tanked up and have afight with the locals/ Russians . the problem is the authority's can not differentiate between the two |

oh and another one during the ban on english clubs from europe in the 80s did all holliganism stop at those games no i didnt thinks so but carry on |

Because you say it is a fact it does not make it one. You are incorrect in saying that English hooligans are fans of football, they're not, and there are literally hundreds of documentaries that have been produced over thirty years supporting this. Rival gangs of hooligans have each others mobile phone numbers so they can call each other to arrange a ruck. What we're seeing in France is innocent English fans caught up in organised violence. |

I will agree that the majority of the fighters go there specifically to have a fight and not to watch the game but how do you stop that? Banning orders haven't worked because they don't care about not seeing the game. How can anyone know who is there to fight and who isn't!

The authorities know who the hooligans are and they are banned from football stadiums across the continent. However, EU rules makes it impossible to stop them travelling. They go to fight, not watch football, and it would be interesting to see how many of them actually have tickets for the matches. |

That was my point. Banning them from the games has made no difference because they just go and fight outside the stadiums and in the cities.

not excusing the behaviours of anyone who is intent on kicking off but there is a difference between kicking off and defending yourself and family members when attacked if you can't get to safety..
the scenes in the stadium last night were worrying given the French are meant to be on a high level of security..
it was clearly organised and it was the Russian 'fans' who attacked..

What you have to remember is the french police do it differently ours seperate the hoooligans contain them and march them way keeping the two sides apart . the french stand and watch them mix let the trouble start and have there fun for half an hour then steam in to the english |

The organisation of the games has to be questioned..British police had serious questions why the game was being played in the evening in a potential town where there was history of hooliganism by French fans. Also there was serious intelligence that the Russians were planning something, but nothing had been done to segregation properly inside the ground. |

this is from a freinds facebook he goes all over the country following oldham and all over europe following eintract frankfurt ,there is a link between supporters groups of the two clubs he is in no way a hooligan
I have been to many places watching football, some more friendly than others. From the moment you got off the train you could see your not welcome.
Yes in the past England fans have bad nasty reputation & still have a few muppets that follow them.
This was different this was gangs of local youths and Russians both before and after the game looking to for aggro and going for families, or anyone they believed to be English.
On arrival I saw a bunch of Russians attacking group of locals outside a bar.
One England fan, after I walked out the station chased after me to advise me to walk the other direction.
Sad before the game me & Michael Ingle had a laugh with some Russians.
Inside the ground a mess up by the Steward saw me end up in the Russian end at the side. Lucky enough was able to get back to my seat in the England end in time for kick off.
I always try to have a positive approach to places and people.
A lot of people warned me about Marseille and the fact as kid where my favourite French team. People also have made big deals about other places I have been to before and never had bother.
I still hope to keep my positive approach but need to think that little bit more I have another ticket for a game in Marseille next week but still 50:50 if it's worth the bother.
The press over here headlines front pages are about the English, not about the Russians who attacked English fans inside the Staduim.
Don't believe all you read in the papers yes England in the past has had issues.
But there is and 2 sides to each story. On this occasion majority of English fans where innocent.

nope....rugby fans drink side by side, arent segregated at their games, eat in restaurants together and discuss the good and bad of the game in a civilised manner.....drink is not the problem.
I worked at Wembley a few times years ago, once for some football final where Man City played and there were riots on the concourse where vendor tills were snatched and the staff had to pull the shutters down and hide in their stalls until the fans were under control.
I also worked there for the rugby league final where there was as much, if not more, drink consumed and saw rival fans laughing and joking together, one conceding that the other team should have been given a penalty for something that happened during the game.
it really is just mindless pathetic violence which unfrtunately wont be topped unless football is stopped now and that wont ever happen because it is such a lucrative industry. |

Youve answered my argument so thankyou for that. Thats the football mentality lets wear other teams colours & cause bother. Unbelievable. All clubs need to control the fans properly & fans need to self police. If fans are hell bent on causing bother then jail them for 5 years minimum. Bloody hell never thought football thugs would stoop to that level. |

There have been troubles between Irish and Polish fans this week.

I very much doubt it, and that's why I am really struggling with the "they started it" defence. but it wont stop the hooligans english teams were banned from europe in the late eightys did it stop hoolliganism nope juant the italians germans turks and dutch to name but a few got a few years to up there game ready for the english returning . try buying a ticket for any england game and not being a memeber of the Englan travel club good luck with that try getting tickest for any tounement and not being a member of the england travel club not having attended a game again good luck with that fans have to jump through lots of hoops to follow england abroad so they bahave so as not to loose those previlidges . but the ticket less hooligans who travel to the "fan parks " to get tanked up all day and generaly act like they are on a stag/hen do are a different story . and if its only an English problem please explain the wide spread trouble during rangers visit to amnchaest a few years ago or the trouble at the scotish cup final last month ?????

I work with people who were in marseille in 98 and they said it was like a war zone, they had to barricade them selves into their hotel rooms as they were attacked by locals.
I have a friend who is over there now and hes got pictures(from a distance) of russians brandishing machetes and throwing tear gas.
This was not a case of English yobbish behaviour, this was a clear organised attack by the russians "hooligans".
As for the incidents in the days leading up to it the england fans were attacked by the locals and then set upon by the riot police.
By no means am i saying that all england fans are innocent but the days are gone of the masses going looking for trouble. You will never stop the minority from spoiling it. |

I've been to the Euros in years gone by and felt sympathy for the genuine England fans.
I was with Ireland,we were welcome in bars and clubs but England fabs were being routinely turned away.
Unfortunately the latest events will result in genuine England supporters being treated as very unwelcome guests. |

That bar you seen burning down what england fans were in was caused by a flare thrown by marseille ultras... Ohh but the english were still there ... However this time we were started on - I am in Toulouse and loads of Spain and chezch republic fans and no trouble
I think I might start use the block button for the morons back home that don't have a clue and have been infected by British media
Nearly every one I spoke to got tear gas at some point and these are people ranging to mid 20s to early 60s. The Russians hit women as well
I agree there a small bunch of dickhead fans that were chucking the odd bottle but it was organised

Hibernian fans were fighting with each other and they won the cup in the pub my son was working at the other week.
They don't need opposition fans to fight with.
Teams should be penalised and fans should only be able to travel if they have tickets for the match.

Ffs. I just read that all alcohol will now be banned outside stadiums now because of the violence caused. Marvellous . While it was expected that English and Russian's would clash you have to ask yourself wtf were the security staff at, no attempt to segregate the two worst groups of travelling supporters out there. Ugh, gotta say this is taking the edge off the excitement I had for my trip over to watch Ireland. |
