It's a read roll or a bap. Had this argument when I dated a guy from Hull, he called them bread cakes and also questioned the woman in my chip shop when she didn't know what he wanted, and asked for chip spice, never heard of chip spice and he looked at us both like we were idiots, I was like right then you fucker, do you want a rissole?

they call them bread cakes in Leeds I had a spell there for couple of years. I found my self still calling them bread cakes when I first move back to Birmingham. I call them cobs now

If you go to Bath, you can have a Sally Lunn in the eponymous tea room. A large toasted teacake really. Lovely with lemon curd.

Hubby grew up down south so to him it's a roll.

I grew up in Nottingham so use the correct terminology and call it a cob
