Look around for good local mechanics who have a knowledge of cheaper parts and may quote you a lesser price. Sometimes though these things just come and bite you on the arse and you. pretty much have to get on with it.
I know how you feel, it's rather down heartening...

What was the reason for taking off the prop?.or was it stolen?
Sounds about right for a propshaft, we were quoted £1500 for a Honda CRV. some years ago.

" it was taken off by a specialist as was making awful noise. They quoted the price so we left it off but dont use or cant use 4wheel drive . Thx for advise so far guys |

If they removed the a drive shaft to stop a noise, I suspect that the fault wasn't actually the drive shaft, I would guess that the faulty component would be what the shaft was connecting to ( maybe the rear differential?)
