it just doesn't give a good impression to some and a first impression can be important so it can be worthwhile getting things right. Personally I'm not that bothered by spelling of tricky words though. |

I have to admit it does put me off if someone has shit spelling. Also when people don't know the difference between to,too, their, there, they're, your, you're etc etc. It's like I know these things and I went to an average Welsh speaking school I may add. |

100% with you on that one!
It's one of the reasons Shaz never writes in forums now because she can't spell great and got fed up with the odd person that thought it made them look big by correcting her!
The funny thing is, if you read there previous posts/profile they often make mistakes themselfs.
Anyway, we add to the block list people we see correcting us or others, we have no time for them as they wouldn't be who we would want to meet anyway.
I used to spell check all my posts but now I don't care, if someone don't like it then block us |

Auto correct can be a right bugger, it once changed bugger to the offensive N word on a Facebook post once. I got a lot of grief over that as I didn't notice.
It was along the lines of, well kick the little bugger back!
Was mortified when I noticed. |

Well truth be told, if someone suffers with dyslexia, when they make a mistake and the spell check offers multiple options of the "correct" spelling then they wouldn't know what option would be correct anyway!
My first cus had bad dyslexia, he tried going to multiple classes for it but he couldn't learn, dyslexia peeps see words different to normal people and "some" can just never learn no matter what. |

My thoughts completely. They should channel their issues in the appropriate place. Could you imagine saying out load something while having sex and they asked...how would you spell that?
Fair enough if there are alot...a careful spell checker is not hard to use. Had someone block me because of some strange false assumptions too.....just ignore and move on there are alot of people on here who are more tolerant. |

It's odd, as one who was poor at spelling and had to work hard to correct this, it really bugs me now when bad grammar stops a sentence flowing.

So long as you get the meaning and intent of the words used that matters. Another example. I didn't understand what my Doctor meant when he diagnosed me as being an insomniac whatever that is. I could've worried about the fact.
But would it really have been worth losing sleep over? |

Awww thats real nice to see an employee taking the initiative to help him.
It's hard enough as it is for dyslexia peeps or peeps that just can't spell well so when they do try to be part of an online community and people start "picking" on there spelling it can be soul destroying.
Some people just don't seem to care just to get one over another. |

It was.
Was it wrong of me to point it out?
OP, I don't care at what age you left school. I don't care about your grammar abilities.
Many do, though. If you perceive an issue there, then use a spelling checker or seek some education in that area. |

Bad spelling can make some things very confusing... but then so can autocorrect, which is definitely responsible for all my misspellings.
However some just aren't bad spelling.
There are no such words as
carnt
norty
arsk
aksed
nos
cos (well there is, but it's very rarely what is meant)
borrow and lent aren't intergangable
while and why... how can you mix those up?
Having said that, I still wouldn't correct someone.
But I will avoid txt spkrs.

Well, I never at any point said "I" was dyslexic, just I'm not the greatest at spelling.
Anyway, if you know code then you should know before it's used commercially or given to the client you have to thoroughly test and debug it.
Varible names though, I do sometimes make mistakes on them by spelling them different but soon fixed |

The only time it affects me is when someone writes a really long post without using any punctuation and moves from one sentence to the next which makes my brain hurt because I'm trying to make it make sense to me it doesn't if there are no full stops at least I'm not bothered too much about commas |

Same here. It's not the spelling that gets me it's those that use the wrong words such as using 'there' when it should be 'their'. That's not a spelling mistake, both mean totally different things. |

An Oxford English graduate friend of mine uses text speak when he texts me. It's what it was invented for. |

No - it's laziness unless they're on a Nokia 6230.
Far too many use dyslexia as an excuse here and elsewhere.

Knock the chips off your shoulders guys. No such thing as a Grammar Nazi.
Some people are particular about body shapes, some are particular about race, and some are particular about how people write.
If you take every time you are offended by someone who is that particular then you're going to spend a lot of time anxious and upset.
Move on and forget it. |

As long as the post can be understood does it really matter if a few words are incorrectly spelt. Having said that I do have to clench my fists when people use "of" in place of "have"!! |

All these forum posts looking for others to agree that spelling, grammar and punctuation aren't important are so disappointing.
The reason they're important is that it demonstrates a base level of intelligence that needs to exist for human beings to communicate effectively.
And for the record, I would never correct anyone on their spelling. I would find that as rude as the person who doesn't take the time to check what they're sending. |

Yes it is important, but it's the way it's done by some.
I hardly think that calling out fellow forum posters, mid thread, on a spelling mistake, grammatical error or a chance slip of the finger, as some do, is the way to do it. Others then just jump on the bandwagon and the poor person who slipped up is not going to want to post again. It is belittling, embarrassing, and just uncalled for.
The problem should be tackled in Schools and other educational medium, not via public slating on Internet forums.

I can not agree if its ''laziness'' or a ''coping strategy'' bit like when I look at someone's profile, and they have put a rant on their profile say something about them getting 200 messages day can not read and answer them all so will i will delete with out a response.
Is this also to be considered laziness or is it coping strategy.
It probably laziness and I think that a lot of people use the excuse of not having the ''time'' to reply, just like the excuse making lazy dyslexic has not got the ''time'' to write full words

Cost. When I looked into it, they wanted £500 for just a few sessions. Once your out side the education system it's expensive my dyslexia test cost £650 managed to get the heath care at work to cover it |
