I dont like it.
If you go to a club you pay to get in but you expect to find some other people there. But that is a club.
If its someones house party then no never. Yes say to them bring some nibbles and a bottle but wouldnt ask for a fee for it. |

"what do people think to charging for parties? parties ive had ive never charged couples only said to them to bring a few nibbles to contribute, "
I see no problem with it as long as it is put on the original invites. There are socials that make quite a bit of money for the organisers, so why not parties?
Having said that, we wouldn't pay to go to a private party, but would take drink or nibbles with us... |

When my partner and I swung as a couple we had several parties. We supplied the soft drinks and the food and just asked people to provide their own drinks. I even put on breakfast the next day.
We have also been to parties in hotels where we have paid approx £10 each to cover the cost of the rooms and nibbles. Which I think is fair. Anything more then I think profit would be getting made and then I would abstain from going for that very reason. |

Same here though i would put on a big curry and soft drinks and everyone bought a bottle.
Ny "curry" parties became quite popular
When "paying" to attend it becomes more of a business venture rather than a fun thing to do with ya swinging mates |

"
It works really well as a 'bring a course' type party.
Everyone brings along their own particular curry speciality for others to try and those who are more culinarily challenged can bring Mrs Uni's nans, chipatis or whatever they choose.
Anyone new to home made curries should check out the Pishtwi Mapal Cook Book written by the well known chef and shagger Heuchma Gandhi. |

Pah... I wasn't thinking about that part... I'm just thinking MMMMMMMMMMM Curry!!!
And no... I wouldn't pay to go to a party. I'd not have a party either, I like my privacy but if I had a party of any sort, I'd never ask my friends to pay! By all means bring a bottle but door charges when going to someone's house? No thanks, and to be truthful, I'm not really after having sex with those kinda people either. |

"But they're "not making a profit, they're just covering their costs" "
If you can't afford to have your friends round, then don't invite them.
Covering costs? Such as?
Perhaps I've just been brought up differently but I would no more invite friends into my home and ask them to pay for the privilege than I would go to a party in someone's house when they asked for a fee.
I would never turn up to someone's house empty-handed either, but not in the form of cash!! |

I made that very point about an hours ago.
If you invite folks for supper and they arrive with a bottle of something or a wee gift (flowers, chocolates, whatever) for the host/ess - that's fine.
If they offer to bring a starter or dessert - even better.
Expecting them to pay? No. Never.

It would depend on the circumstances. If "special equipment" has been hired in, say a jaccussi and it`s made clear from the begginning that a contribution will be expected and the reasons why then that would be OK with me. Equally if they were asking for a donation to a charity that would also be OK. Having said that, I wouldn`t expect to be asked for anything more than £10 maximum and I would refuse to pay if it wasn`t made clear at the time of arrangment. |

i dont think its a real p[arty in a hired venue and even less so if u pay. your argument about covering costs just dont hold water . soare u saying when u hired a hall for your wedding reception you charged your guests for the DJ and entrance fee. A PARTY is A PARTY and if u charge then it aint , the fun of goingt to a party is knowing u are wanted there NOT to help cover costs . thats why there are so many parties where there are hidden agendas !! |

Why do folk have a problem with someone making a buck or two?
You want to swing, and you want to meet like-minded people. To my mind you're least likely to find a bunch of vanillas paying to go to a private house party. Paying qualifies them as swingers as much as you can qualify someone and if those that go are happy to pay then who's to say the host shouldn't charge. |

A couple invited us to a party and wanted £10 a head to cover a portion of curry and some none alcoholic punch. With 11 confirmed guests it seemed like a lot for a pan of curry and mixed _ruit juice. |

Its absoultely disgusting that people charge - they chose to host the party in the first place !!....fair enough, people will bring their own drinks etc as no one wants to be out of pocket.
We have seen adverts where people charge £10 each .......bleedin hell, what do you get for a tenner at a house party??...caviar?.
When we invite people to ours, we provide everything (because thats the type of people we are)and people never turn up empty handed anyhow.
The only expense anyone incurs if they come to ours , is the cost of them getting here........and thats it !!
get 10 cpls @ a tenner each and thats £200 quid (plus any singles that come)....may as well pack in work and use it as a business ! |

I don't agree about it being disgusting.
Paying to go to parties is not for everyone and it's not for me but there's people for whom it's perfectly OK and I neither condemn nor criticise them. |

We don't agree with paying to attend house parties but would voluntarily contribute to a whip-round if a nice buffet had been laid on.
To our mind that's only being fair and showing appreciation.

to be honest i would never attend a party unless it was some good friends that was hosting it or at least a good friend of a friend...........and if they wanted to charge they wouldnt be a friend for long!!
some people with money will pay whatever it takes at times

You wouldn't think of doing that at a 21st or at an engagement party, would you?
By all means take a bottle or a wee gift but offering cash is a bit like saying you think the host/ ess is short of a bob or two. |

We may be the odd ones out here!! We have hosted parties but we never charge, however we attend a lot of Parties and quite often it is £5 per head to cover mixers and food and to be honest at most of them it is well worth it, there have been some great spreads and great parties. Having hosted our own we know how much hard work goes in to making it a good one plus all the washing and tidying up after!! so we have no problem at a token payment but if it was £10 per head we would not go as this is the same price as a club where there are specific facilities. |

At a 21st or an engagement party you would most likely be taking along a presen anyway....so nobody would normally leave anything for whoever put on the buffet!
leaving a cash gift doesnt necessary imply that you think the host is skint or short of cash.....its purely a sign of appreciation......similar to perhaps the whip round people have for the bus driver if on a jamboree somewhere for the day |

our parties became really succesful. THEY were free based on respect and be who u want. if u charge ,, what are u really saying. pay a tenner and u are guranteed a shag !! there are places where u can go for that. the whole point (in my mind) is CHOICE. Choice to go , or not go, choiceto play or not if there arent a couple you fancy. paying means theres an obligation on both sides , But hey i agree each to there own . its neither right nor wrong its about what want . all i would say if people start going more to "pay on the door parties , you can start to kiss godbye to decent clubs as they wont get the income (there are some clubs closing already due to this) OR they will start letting in ANYONE just to gain revenue (again u are seeing this NOW)Our choice would be to have great well run clubs such as chameleons with great facilities for meeting new people and a great night out and private GENUINE NO PROFIT parties as an addition and different more intimate fun. What next shall we charge our kids parents to cover the cost of a cake and fizzy pop lol
also bear in mind this ,, if u pay to go to a party WHO is making the rules !! Think about it ,, JUST SAY NO lol !! |

There is also the school of thought....If you don't agree with paying to attend a Private Party, then just decline the invite.
That's the great thing about choices...we all have the right to make them. |

we were asked many yrs ago to run swingers parties from a private house with indoor pool, and a lake in the grounds. we charged as that was the understanding we could use the venue as long as the guy who lived there got some money from it.
being a very large lavish house we were inundated with requests to attend, so much so that after a few days of advertising the parties we had to close the guest list as it was full.
We see nothing wrong in charging a party that is open to all, friends partys are a different matter.
Btw there is a swingers club running in the uk that asks its members to host parties, there is an entrance fee and the house owner gets a percentage. |

As stated before on a similar thread when my partner and I held parties at our house we didnt charge. We would lay on the buffet and the mixers and would even throw in breakfast for the people who stayed over.
However in saying that we have been to parties where we have indeed paid. These were venues at hotels etc where costs were incurred. I for one would not pay to go to a ordinary house party. I dont mind contributing to costs incurred but object to paying for people who make a profit out of it.
Each to their own and as someone said, we all have a CHOICE |

I'm guessing from the OP's location he has seen the same profile we have in his area?
The couple operate private parties from their home as a sort of members club. You have to pay to be a member and visit them in their own home
Guess it works for the select few who attend regularly. Can't see it doing much for those one off types though! |

I might have gotten the wrong end of the stick about socials but I understood the charge was more by way of a sign of your commitment to attend and to cover the cost of the venue and the entertainment* with any surplus going to a previously announced good cause and the 'accounts' for the night verified by a couple of attendees.
Nothing objectionable in that.
* I don't know about elsewhere but there always seem to be 'Free Venue Hire and DJ' posters up around Glasgow. |

We used to attend a regular social and the charge was £10 per head. With 200+ attendees you can easily see that buffet costs would have accounted for £500 max, the DJ was usually someone in the scene anyway, and the venue was free because of the amount of people that the social brought with it.
The organisers were easily making, at the very least, £1,200-£1,400 every three months.
Did it bother me?
Not at all, it only cost us £20 for a fabulous night out with some very sexy people. Who's to argue with that! |

Jeezzzzzzzz... That is one hell of a lot of money to make for a social! But then I suppose on top of that some organisers would have to rent the venue.. But still seems like a good case for having charged only £5 per head and still make money! That is more "Club" entrance than a social and at a club you do at least get "facilities"
Surely, if it is being run as a business, it should be stated? (Maybe it is?) |
