Many different ones.

Recently raised over £500 for British heart foundation.

Last year I raised the same for diabetes UK.

Have raised money for samaritans.

A lot of people have been raising money for a local family so have given to a number of people doing bike rides etc.

A world of my own

In the past I've raised money for chest heart and stroke and cash for kids by doing an abseil off the forth rail bridge and a bungee jump.

I donate clothes to the local cancer research shop too.

However at the moment I'm being greedy and not donating anywhere other than the _yldstyle family. Summer holiday childcare costs a fortune.

Shamefully I once signed up to do a monthly donation to wwf because the guy was hot.. I cancelled it after 2 months!

I have always had my concern about how large charities are run and how much actually gets through. Often I think my allegiances should go to smaller ones with less overheads or have people who voluntarily work for them.

There are a few that I'll always try and donate to but one close to my heart is a small but interesting charity called Specialized that raises money for Teenage Cancer Trust and Youth Music by releasing albums of covers by unsigned bands/singers of a different group or artist each year. So far they've released albums of covers of songs by The Specials, The Beat, Madness, The Clash and this year it's Bob Marley.

They also host various gigs/events throughout the year.

If you want to know more Google "Specialized Project" and it's the first on the list. Some of the albums are also available via Amazon/iTunes.

Oh and we've also just recently decided to support a cat sanctuary (Tala Monastery Cats) in Paphos, Cyprus on a regular basis. We visited last year and they have around 650 cats at any one time that they try and care for on a very limited budget - and being cat lovers ourselves feel it a very worthwhile cause that's not quite as mainstream as some of the other charities.

There was no need to couch your initial or subsequent comments in those terms and it is unsurprising that the respondent has reacted in this way.

Perhaps look at local smaller charities should you wish to get involved. Most have a volunteer workforce and a higher percentage goes to the those in need.

I support many charities in different ways.

When i buy my clothes from charity shops im indiscriminant.

When i give my clothes i give them to the.local air ambulance.

I like to see hands on i dont give.to a homeless charity but i activly seek out homeless people, chat.to them and buy them what they need i feel its.more.personal.

I.donate.to.a.mental health charity amd two cat charities.a.month

I was going.to stop the cats protection and give.to the other but ive ended up giving.to both

The smaller one i know.all the.cats and can go see them anytime. I also adopt.the.old.cats.from there.

Throw.money in buckets.but.always.ask about the.charity.

After being a long term volunteer with a large national charity my opinion on charities changed.

I now prefer to give when there's a specific appeal as opposed to my money going into general funds.

But I'm also uneasy with appeal giving (but I'd rather do something than nothing) as not all donated money goes out as quickly as it should, if it even goes out at all.

RNLI. If you want to see an example of incredible bravery watch the documentary about the Penlee lifeboat. It's on YouTube somewhere.

Giving to charity is more fulfilling when there is a personal connection. My mother raises a lot for different cancer charities since she came I'll a few years ago. Mainly small local ones or kids cancer charities. It's the small things that count. There's often a coffee morning going on around her house.

"I spend time each year volunteering on overseas aid-projects that involve supplying remote communities with safe water and medical support ....

You should get in touch with Simon Konecki. He owns the company life water that sells bottled water then builds wells in third world countries. "

Thanks for the suggestion .....

But we've been doing what we do pretty much every year since 2004 using a tried and tested formula that works the way it does simply because we are able to operate a self sufficient programme thanks to the co-operation and generosity of our corporate sponsors.....

We drill wells and install water purification equipment whilst providing support and assistance to a mobile field hospital.....

I volunteer at the national trust local property and have been doing so since 1989

Lots of people give to medical charties for deepfelt personal reasons and i understand why but personallly i feel this is the job of the nhs and i pay plenty for that womderfull organisation

I also give time at local dog trust and an adult befriending trust

I am tight and prefer to give my time than cold hard cash at leasr i know where my time goes
