.. but it's on Sky 'On Demand' : worth a watch or overhyped? It's one if those films that I've always said I would get around to watching eventually - but have never actually that bothered to get around to either finding or making the time... Is now the time?
And what other cult cinematic gems are out there that are recommended?
My tip to you all if you haven't seen it - the original Wicker Man with Edward Woodward is definitely worth a watch! |

"*composes self*
Yes, OP, you should watch it at the earliest opportunity. It's excellent.
I'll get on it - how can I not now??"
It's quite dated on one level but on another it's a terrifying cinematic landmark about the impossibility of salvation in the absence of free-will. |

No, because he hated the device that Kubrick used to signify the conditioning. Ultimately we will all get on with our desert stimkrt |

"Donnie Darko : Anyone able to give a concise plot analysis? I've watched it twice and still none the wiser."
i like that film, and the 2nd one with the meteor.
Based on the story itself, the Philosophy of Time Travel, and the three DVD commentaries with Richard Kelly it's possoble to come up with a cohesive plot thread. So...
In a nutshell, the Universe has become corrupt and is ending. Donnie (and others) are manipulated by Frank the "rabbit" (and whoever manipulates Frank) to save the Universe.
(There are other ways to view the film e.g. it being Donnie's dream, or that Donnie is hallucinating the story as part of his psychosis, but the aim of this FAQ is to gather together the tangible evidence within the film versions and from the writer/director)
google: stainlesssteelrat.net ddfaq for loads of interesting info. i got the above off there. |

you're welcome.
there's loads of ideas about that film really. might watch it again now i understand more of life and see if i get it. i think it's some kind of interpretation of mental illness maybe but not sure tbh.
the second film was not as weird but still weird. in the same way something bad happens and the person starring in the film can change it somehow. |

"Hard to take Warren Clarke seriously "
The young devotchka being in outed by BillyBoy has lovely knockers..worth a look for them alone..and the nurse's too at the end...
seriously tho, it was revolutionary at the time and was named Best Picture at The New York Film Critics..not amongst Kubrick's best by today's thinking..those are 2001, Barry Lyndon, Dr. Strangelove and The Shining..but well worth a glazzy. |

"A classic, but the book is better
I would disagree. Read the book first which was very good. But thought the film was better.
Rare for me to say that. "
Whatevs, the porno "A Clockwork Orgy" was better than the film and book combined. |

I've never seen it either.
I have the book, started but not finished.
I have the DVD, unwatched.
You've reminded me to find the time to watch it.
As for recommendations, Jacobs Ladder. |
