I dont know if anyone else's job merges with their lives away from work but mine does. I test software for a living, which means my job is to look for faults (bugs) and report them. Away from work I simply can't stop myself noticing things, be it a spelling mistake on a menu in a restaurant, or something wrong on the back of a well known supplier of fajita mixes. An example is tonight on the Pick channel, there was a program called Police Ten 7, so I clicked the info to see what it was, only to find the info as "An in depth and griping look at the day to day work of the New Zealand police".....I'm pretty sure they mean gripping....
I wish I could turn my test head off but I cant....annoys the piss out of Mrs curious thats for sure.
It can't only be me that does this is it? |

I used to manage a restaurant and developed an analytical eye for food. Now I analyse and criticise everything I eat. Drives my mum up the wall and I pity my yet unknown wife to be. |

"I work in a profession where accuracy is everything.
I actually feel distress if I notice I have made a spelling or grammatical error on a post.
It is just part of who I. "
It is just a part of who I am. |

Phew, it's not just me then. I'm not only talking about typos, we all make them, but loads of stuff. I was looking for a new car recently, still am, and noticed that 1 car i was looking at had 2 different sets of pictures of the inside. I asked the seller which was which and he said does it matter....I didn't bother going further with that enquiry lol |

Working In A technical role in construction has left me constantly checking out Buildings for imperfections and I have a compulsive urge to check out every site I walk past to see what's happening. I have also developed a passing interest in architecture and looking at the tops of old building I have come to the opinion that modern architect have lost the ability to finish off buildings to the standards of previous generations.
I waste a lot of precious time on this |

Stick at challenging yourself and stopping it, if you'd like to change - preferably by helping yourself to feel good about it. Your skill is obviously great but could be toned down at times.
Make a habit of it - maybe some bigger rewards for every 10/25 successes or a week when you don't do it. We can form new contextually dependent habits if we are motivated and stick at it. |
