Drinking WINE at age 30+

I used to collect dark rums, and those are the only drinks I care for the nuances of, but I rarely drink nowadays.
A glass of decent wine with a meal is fine, but really good stuff would be wasted on me. |

That's the thing about being an adult u can release the 12 yr old inside u can have nesquick pink milk for breakfast,wine and exquisite foods for lunch and rum and soda for tea debauchiours nights all in moderation

In my adult years I found that.........you have to like wine!  And you have to pair wine with food and...you have to talk about it. Like quite a bit actually. Who would've thought.... Wine.....Vino....
So, being my 12 years old self in 30 years old body I have a hard time fighting this complex.
I personally don't really like wine. I will drink it. Sometimes it taste OK... But I'm not like a wine drinker. I've rather be drinking rum with soda... BUT my adult self is fighting and....I think it makes me sound more mature  Cheers "
Meh.
Horses for courses. I take a long time to drink pints. I can take hours to drink one pint. I have to drink half pints when I'm drinking ales, lagers and wine too. I also don't like the size of these large wine glasses. It's far too deceptive...
So I stick to spirits and can wax lyrical about whiskies, whiskeys, rums, bourbons, gins.... And because they are legally obliged to sell measured units, I know how much I'm drinking as well.
Just don't ask me about wines. I know what I like and that's it.
Mind you, I heard ale and beer drinkers yapping about body and pallette (sp?) too... |

I bought some cheapo wine back from France the other day. I just swigged a bottle last night. It wasn't worth tasting per se but it was worth drinking.
I think people who take about wine remind me of a character in a Roald Dahl story about a wine taster and I can't take them seriously. |

I love wine , and gin , beer sometimes port , oh can't forgot Bacardi and the odd dram or two of a good malt.....infact anything alcoholic although I draw the line at meths...sometimes. |

I get tired if I'm out with a group of people and the "wine expert" (and there's always at least one) has to go on and on about how much they know about it and bludgeon the rest of us with their knowledge. It's likely that the are an expert on every thing else too and I've also found it common that in some cases they are not very nice to the staff in the restaurant. That tells me more about them than anything.
I like the odd glass with a one liner, "yes, that wine is lovely" and move on with good conversation about anything else.

I'll dronk wine if I'm eating, but rarely will I sit at home with a bottle of wine. Bottle of Jim, Jack or Johnny on the other hand!
I either like wine or I don't. There is no getting around it, I can't detect different flavours and notes etc. I do know it gets me pissed a lot quicker than spirits do though.

Oddly I've kinda fallen out of love with red wine since I stopped smoking. The two were synonymous for me and worked together to give me great pleasure.
Since then I can enjoy a glass or two but it doesn't do what it did. |

I love a good cider, or cocktails when I'm out with my friends. But wine...just not my thing. |

As I mature I take great pleasure in creating delicious meals in the kitchen , something which is becoming a very satisfying hobbie for me. I too have recently developed a taste for wine........ but I havnt reached the dizzy heights of chatting absolute garbage about how a fine wine's rich body arouses my nasal passage etc..... If it taste nice then fine, if not donate it to a tramp |

What you are discribing lady is the epitome of disdain in our modern society. An attempt to sound almost elitist and interesting because they have led a boring life. Something I hate with a passion as its another know a little knowledge and now you're an expert.

Yes good wines don't have to cost a lot to be good .. 4 .. 5 pounds I can find ones I love ... had some over 20 pounds and I cant tell from 5 pound one . |

Your palate changes as you mature.
During University days I was a lager man, and d*unk white wine. Mid twenties switched to only drinking red, late twenties ale/craft beers.
More recently I've developed a a taste for gin. Used to turn my nose up at that 20 years ago.
My sister she's 49 and only just learnt how to taste wine properly and now can figure out the flavours rather than just nailing it. She's still a lightweight though. |

I find that my taste for wine is improving as I get older, i.e. that sweet German nun is no longer welcome... wine bores can be controlled, just make a sufficiently grizzly example of the first one and the rest shut up  |

For me being an adult is not giving a shit. Im not a big wine drinker but i do quite like rose. If i want lambrusco(which i dont) with my pudding i will bloody well have it.
I dont feel as though i "have" to have something just cause others do.
I prefer prosecco over champagne anyday |

Wine is a personal thing
You either like it or not, same with red or white, expensive or cheap it is a personal taste
I am a recovering alcoholic so don't drink alcohol at all

I did drink wine and like I stated above
My taste in wine depended on what I was eating at the time. I cannot stand sparkly carbonated anything do champagne, text is wasted on me
Beer,,,,, like above lager to me is carbonated piss water and annoys me that I can walk into LIDL and buy a 4 pack cheaper than a similar pack of water. Since the age of 18 I have always drank Ale. Travelled to many places and tasted the local brew best yet was a Bavarian smoked beer.
Have tasted one or two close to it back home here in Scotland
Spirits.... As a Scotsman the lure of a nippy sweety or whisky should be too good to pass up. My old man is a malt connoisseur but I couldn't tell the difference between Sainsburys own brand of blended or a 12 yr old Islay. Tastes like fire water
I did drink my body weight and more in Jack. Have American relatives helped develop my taste for the stuff.
Vodka is paint gut rot and paint remover. Best white spirit on the market for stripping paint

True.
I don't drink to excess to a point where I cannot make my way home. And if I do drink more than one drink, I always drink with people that I know and trust.
Therefore most people who meet me on the first instance assume that I am teetotal. Which is almost true. I rarely drink, and if I do, I can be very discerning about what I drink. |

In my 30s and not a massive wine fan! Defos doesn't make you any more mature. If anything makes me a piss head. I do like a rose or prosecco. But can't do white or red wines or even be bothered with what wine goes with what food. What's that all about.  |

My taste in wine has evolved with age, started on German wine spritzers in my teens(ish) with Sunday lunch, then on it's own. Then tried a variety of white wines but it was always hit and miss whether I liked it. Stopped drinking white after a Christmas party, being the only one drinking white I ended up drinking 3 bottles by 5pm, wasn't my finest moment so moved on to Rosè again got really d*unk on this and decided it wasn't for me either and moved on to Red, which is much preferrable however I do stick to only two glasses - lessons have now be learnt!! Still have the odd glass or 7 of Prosecco which doesn't seem to have much of an effect on me.
But I have similar views on Coffee I'm sure some drink it just to make themselves look mature |

When someone bores you with some such chat about wine. Let your 12 y.o self pull a face. And maybe say Yuck!
However if their chat is interesting let the 30.y.o self have a proper adult discussion.

I always kinda liked some wine but glugged it down. But I've been working for a wine company now for 10 months (Naked Wines - I'm an IT bod though, not a wine expert!), and I'm slowly appreciating it a bit more.
Naked have a very un-pretentious approach to wines. And the guys running it - while knowing their wines very well - are really down-to-earth about it too. In the first tasting I was in the week I joined, no fucking about - they just asked if I liked it or not!)

I dont like drinking it either but find myself still doing it then talking shit about the lovely bottle of merlot i found in tesco. I then feel like a right twat. |

I like mine full-bodied and fruity. Same with wine.
Must admit I prefer to quaff a decent real ale nowadays though. Serve it in smaller glasses, don't glug. |

Anyone mix red wine and ? Try it! It makes a crap red taste passable and makes the first glass more palatable. Especially when I tend to neck the first one. |

There are two types of wine essentially, and everybody knows this. There’s the one where you drink it and go, "Mmmm, well that’s ok, can we get 8 of those please, give us 8 of those." There’s the other one, you know, where you go "Ga…bt…jesus, WHAT is that?" Very, very occasionally I concede you will hit a subtle one. You know, where you go "Ga…ba…ah, actually that’s not that bad, that is. It’s quite nice."

Weirdly, I always liked wine much more as a yonger man. I seem to have gone off it now somewhat. Ive always loved beer though, although it seems that you now get 'tasting notes' on bottles of beer...FFS! |
