On tv tonight a Documentary in which Fiona Phillips teams up with leading scientists ... saying a lot what they say is good for us is not ... frying eggs is good . lol x milk is good for us. fat is good. |

It's the refined or processed stuff that's not so good, anything natural is good I always think. And, as has pointed out previously, everything in moderation, and exercise is the best way. Calories in vs calories out.... |

Natural sugar though, Fructose. It can be a good idea to space your fruit out over the whole day. Some have higher sugars than others. |

Sugar is sugar, whether its refined or not. Fructose has exactly the same calories as sucrose. The vitamins are just a bonus. |

Eat less, move more.
Cut out the crap food.
Deep down, we all know which ones are the crap foods.
Simples. " yes it simple don't over do it .. and cut out the crap. And don't pay loads for super foods as normal things you like are better. |

Pray you never have to see a NHS nutritionist - we've been through nearly 3 yrs of banging heads with them!!! Not impressed.

The scientific fact about loosing weight is that you have to eat less calories than you burn through during the day. Loosing weight can be extremely easy for some and difficult for others but this works both ways .
Eat your fruits, their sugar is better than the one in the Marse bar! |

I'm lucky enough to have a nutritionist tell me what to eat and when on a weekly basis. I'm going to assume our reasons for a nutritionist are very different.

I had to explain that to someone on the juice thingy everyone is on at the moment. Drinking 4 portions of fruit,veg and whatever else they put in it was more calories than a bacon sandwich. |

I'm lucky enough to have a nutritionist tell me what to eat and when on a weekly basis. I'm going to assume our reasons for a nutritionist are very different.

It was for my youngest who inherited a thyroid problem from my side of the family. We had such conflicting advice & felt we weren't being listened to. My eldest is like a beanpole - tall & painfully thin - youngest is solid & has to watch everything he eats. It's hard & unfair |

The thing is with a healthy diet. It's like physical trainers. Too many people think they know and haven't got a bloody clue.
What the fuck are chia seeds, goji berries, Acai berries all about? You can shove that BS where the sun don't shine.
The ONLY thing that I would endorse by extensive use are blueberries as a superfood (antioxidant) and organic coconut oil (I have half a teaspoon in my coffee, try it) Even quinoa has its place but I would say more as an alternative grain than anything else. |

As for a high fat diet it's only good if the fats are good fats. The body wasn't designed to process refined carbohydrates and have adapted over many years. Both are energy sources and both should ideally be eaten separately.
What the government are trying to say is that sugar is the main culprit for obesity as its high calorie/low nutrition and added to most low fat foods. Sugar is a refined carbohydrate and gets burned quickly but too much leads to fat not being burned and the liver going into fat storage mode when glycogen levels/glucose/sugar levels max out.
Too many processed foods contain sugar and that the trouble with modern society.
The truth is. Cook from fresh. |

Back to traditional methods before we had fancy margarine and ate butter.
Dehydrogenated fat and monosodium glutamate (msg) is what's bad for you in processed food. We should get back to basics and bake our own bread, cakes and biscuits and then we would know what's in them. Most of us eat more fast food and take aways as well.
