English football fans are being told not to wear the traditional crusader outfits in France during the Euro's because they might offend. What do you think? |

"Who is it going to offend?
I'm guessing the thought is "muslims", but since they won the crusades, I suspect they'll be sniggering
"
I'd not thought of that but I guess it may be offensive to be wearing a reminder of war, even if we lost |

Like a poppy perhaps? Or a war medal maybe. An RAF tie?

Were you planning to go dressed as a poppy?
This footie lark is far more complex than I realised. I thought the hard bit was the off-side rule... |

Not me...lol What to wear is much more of an issue than offside and harder to explain! |

Is it the cross of St George they don't want fans to wear? If so should they ban the German supporters not to wear the German flag? They historically upset nearly the whole world! Infact all countries national colours should be banned as probably most countries have fallen out with another, well apart from Iceland! |

"...well apart from Iceland!
Don't forget the 'Cod Wars'.
And that volcano.
Their puddings are nice though, so swings and roundabouts..."
Do Iceland have nice children's playgrounds too.... I know they apparently have "super" yoghurt.
As St George is also the patron saint of Poland then maybe crusaders with red crosses may get confused as polish....or Saint Johns Ambulance? |

"It's 'traditional' to wear suits of armour at footie matches?

Mr.ddc
think it was since the FA banned everyone turning up as Nelson, Horatio that is.."

"I can safely say after 2 seconds of deep consideration that I don;t give a shit
seconded.
There is some common ground here then "
We mutually roll our eyes at stories that start with "I once knew a man who had a dog and he told me..." |

I think football should be banned. Too much hassle for so few goals. |

I misread goals as goats then.

A few goats on the field might make it more interesting! |

The bbc set up a poll on its iwonder website asking the question if it's suitable for fans to wear the crusader outfit. They made some reference about st George being a Palestinian and then commented about what other country's wear at games ie Australians dressing as kangeroos, Germans wearing lederhosen etc
That's probably where it's come from |

Like I said the lads always where the crusades outfits....I remember them back in '04 & 06
I have had a drink with a couple of them as well
I do laugh because in Ukraine it was boiling and the lads were in this heavy outfit and the rest of us were in shorts tshirts |

But are they really crusader outfits? Does that even make any sense in the context of the Euros?
Surely they're more likely to be related to Agincourt, Henry V and the Hundred Years War?
With someone stirring to cause mischief. |
