So . Driving around Plymouth in the week small hours and I see a lady walking on her own. I stop and offer her a lift which she accepts. Turns out she's a prostitute on her way to work. I gave her a lift and we had a nice conversation. Out of interest (since I've never needed to know) i asked what the standard charges were. The answer was £20 for pretty much anything. Am I alone in being shocked? I totally respect these ladies. I just find it sad they consider themselves worth so little! |

Unfortunately most have habits to feed and I would guess the price of a fix in Plymouth is £20. |

Street walkers are like the lowest level of sex worker.
Even a fairly average incall escort can get 120 an hour easily. |

" ........ it's a good job the old bill didn't catch you giving her a lift, what people do not realise is that if a motor vehicle is used for kerb crawling, drug dealing or various other criminal offences the police have the power to remove the drivers license at the end of the day she is most likely to be known to the police for being a prostitute... the police won't see it as you simply giving a girl a lift !

so near and yet so far.... |
Hubby had a scary experience when he was studying in Notts, a lady flagged him down and got into his car, then started saying she needed money for her mother in hospital, she started to get very agitated when hubs didn't do the white knight bit and offer, we needed every penny back then as we had a young family. He told her to get out of the car, and had to push her out... He was worried for weeks after that the police would come knocking on the door... |

all these girls are someone's daughter's,
sad when people try to avoid rather than help, we are all human and some get so desperate that they have no choice but to fall into prostitution, if these girls could be given a second chance I am sure they all have the ability and mind set to become anything they so desire
we all tend to look and criticize without knowing the full story or background |

I was parked in a notorious place in Wolverhampton whilst delivering and a lady of the night lent in stole my sunglasses, fortunately she was spotted, they will steal anything or obtain cash in any way to fund their habits.

Thing is most of us have a back story, very few of us go through life unscathed. What we all have is choices.
Life experiences also make us wary. Sadly, in my 55 years I've finally realised no good deed goes unpunished, I will no longer go out of my way to help: I've punished enough.

street walkers dont charge by the hour though do they they charge per job, if you charge £20 a blow job and the guys shoot off quick you have the potential to earn ovet £80 an hour if its a busy night |

when i worked in town we was next to red light area, some are really rough you can see how the drugs have took over, as a prev post said even if you give them a lift they are in your car and you are guilty of kerb crawling, unless you really do know them ie address and proper name, not street name |

I like your opening lines OP, nothing unusual about driving around a city in the wee small hours and offering random, solo females lifts and nothing unusual about them accepting a lift from a random male stranger.
...and what a shock it must have been to discover she was a prostitute on her way to work. |

When I was at uni I bumped into a girl I used to work with at the local Wimpys.
"What are you doing now?" I asked.
"I'm on the game, better money than Wimpy"
I didn't really know what to say, so I just stood there opening and closing my mouth like a fish, until she laughed.
At that stage she wasn't on drugs, but had made a conscious decision. I hope that remained the case.

You lot are so cynical
I'm always driving round Kings Cross at night offering young ladies lifts and asking how much they charge. No funny business ever goes on, it's just social responsibility.
Besides, they always want £20, and Mrs ddc only ever gives me £5 pocket money

Prostitution pretty much mirrors the rest of the job market. Those at the bottom do long hours in a shit environment for low pay, those at the top jet off all over the world earning mega bucks and staying in posh hotels.
Worlds oldest profession so they say

Whilst this person accepted the 'lift', she may have viewed the op as appropriate for a $20 charge - she was on shift, after all.
As an aside, if you're concerned for someone's safety on the street, call and pay for a cab or the police, if In imminent danger. It is really short-sighted to get someone into your car, potentially creating another issue, as positive as intentions may be.
As adults we're at liberty to manage our lives as we see fit. Any of us can come into hard times, so it's wise not to judge imo. |

Now that's real performance related pay, we should introduce it for politicians. |

I used to park my car for work on a street notorious in our area for prostitutes. I'd see them at home time and they'd be covered in bruises from head to toe, whether that was from punters, their pimp or drugs, but it was sad to see, and you'd see their pimp watching them from the bus stop across the road
On that same street I parked my car up one morning for work, glanced across to a car parked on another side of the road and there was a man sat inside having a wank. He saw me looking but carried on regardless in a state of bliss. I exited my car sharpish as I was slightly disturbed, partially aroused and mainly late for work! |

Careful, I bet they don't actually *do* anything, they're just after your money.
