"Give some to the new life boat station at portishead and then off to Pembrokeshire for three months "
Derby also needs a new lifeboat station, the old one fell down due to poor upkeep and the 95 miles we are from the sea... |

This happened to an ex colleague of mine. He was already rich and had won a significant amount the week before on the lottery. Some bastards have all the luck.
If it were me, I'd put it into my savings. Decide later what to do. I make very poor choices when I'm impulsive and I'm trying to stop that. |

"You open up your mailbox and there is an envelope, address to you, that contains £5,000. What do you do/spend it on?"
1/3 for my pleasure.
1/3 saved for rainy days.
1/3 invested. |

Pay to have my daughter assessed privately for ADHD and ODD. Then get her the help I've been fighting to get for her for the last five years.
If there was any left I'd put it towards fixing my car. |

"50,000 days of silver membership...or just waste it on something frivolous
You planning on being alive for 50,000 days, let alone 50,000 more days?!"
I'm a single man on Fab - improving the odds, playing the long game. Day 49,482 is the winner, I can feel it in my brittle bones |

I would probably spend it on something nice for Mark, maybe some car limits tuition/race tuition he has done alot for me when I was out of work so I would want to pay him back for that. Oh and maybe a spa day for me |

FYI, you can get a private assessment and report from some private practices for around £750. Some are more, some are less, and some accept Bupa. Maybe pay for insurance through them. |

Derby City Council donates to the upkeep of Skegness Lifeboat Station
I would buy some new furniture, a season ticket to watch the Rams, and book a holiday in Rome |

"Give it to my mum"
Again, all of it?
I'm not a doubting person usually, but I do find it hard to believe that people would give away 100% of no strings attached money. |

Damn. I need friends with that kind of luck. Maybe some will rub off. |

Either sorting out the car, getting C driving lessons and also a direct access course for motorbikes and then a few days away somewhere.
Or, more likely, put it in savings towards a deposit for our own place. |

"Take it to the police station and hand it in as lost property of course.
Even though it's addressed to you and in your mail box?"
Yes, but probably not as lost property but unless I was expecting some money or it said who the money was from then I would suspect that there would be negative implications if I took the money and spent it. |

"Spend spend spend such a materialistic lot you are"
Some people did say they would save it, put it towards retirement, and even give it to others.
Still others had very non-materialistic things they said they would spend it on.
So I guess I find this statement unwarranted.
Not to mention that it isn't unreasonable to spend money in the first place. It was a rather materialistic question. |

It's a hypothetical so there is no catch. Stop being so pessimistic |
