This is something I would love. I think the Isle of Wight for me, but I'll need a helicopter too so it's easy to get there

Pembrokeshire is great 180 miles of coast line ,rugged and unspoilt and not very commercialised ,apart from Tenby and Saundersfoot

I already live in a cottage by the sea and would feel I'd lost something very special to me if I moved inland.....

South Devon, in a tiny village we love. Abroad, not on the coast but Annecy in France or Kefalonia.

It would probably have to be down south some where, problem is prices for a northerner. I like Cornwall but it would have to be when I retire as their isn't much in my line of work in that area.

Alternatively a place in the sun, I love Italy but the Greek islands also have an appeal, I love messing about in boats so that would suit me well. And I love the climate.

I'd love to live in a lighthouse but they tend to be a bit exposed, there is a lighthouse guesthouse in Wales which is worth a stay in

A bit if a twist, but I'd own a log cabin in the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York by a lake.

When I was a kid my parents had a summer house up there on a river and the memories are some of my happiest. It's beautiful and I think a log cabin in the mountains suits me better than a cottage by the sea.

Top South-West Tips for Cottage living (not cottaging!) In Devon;

The north coast is beautiful and untamed; but remote; daily necessities need to be bought in advance; shopping requires planning

If you don't drive (anywhere in Devon) you are stuffed, few buses, fewer trains

South coast is more tamed but more lively.

No jobs; so bring your work with you

In the summer; it's beautiful but full of caravans; screaming kids and tourists (known as "grockles") in the winter; it rains and socially it's dead.

Year on year new housing estates are being built and compound unemployment problems and are impacting the beauty

House prices on the coast are amongst the highest in the UK; the dream cottage can be out of reach.

Aside from the above; I like living here; but sacrifices are made, there is still "serenity" here; it's just getting harder to find

little house on the praire

My dad and his partner loved cromer.

He died 3 years ago. She has now sold the house and bought a tiny apartment right on the sea front. Shes been tbere 4 months and has started to make a few friends. I applaud her it was a big decision to just do it for a 73 year old woman
