Looking at paces to go next year...

Europe, beach & culture nice bars and food or all inclusive

Or do I go all out and book

New York with plenty of shops and sightseeing (daughter wants to go)

Just a quick 7 day trip with a 14 year old.

Ideas and advise appreciated. Thanks in advance

Boston is great too. Plenty of shopping, more historic than New York, but also has the advantage of great places to visit from there Salem (very easy journey), cape cod, Harvard .... And they certainly know how to through a party for St Patrick's day for those traveling in March time

Santorini is lovely. Though might not be lively enough for a teenager.

I'm just going up north to the highlands of Scotland this year. But Cuba is on the cards for next year. Then hopefully Japan the following year.

Paphos, Cyprus would be our recommendation, great mix of sandy beaches, good hotels, reasonably priced restaurants. Very family friendly, both cultural and fun day trips on offer - we've been several times and really can't fault it for a relaxing break that won't break the bank. Think it's costing us around £1600 for three of us (2 adults and a 12 year old) this year.

Japan isn't as expensive as you'd think. I've seen flights via Istanbul for £400 and hotels we stayed in were £40 a might. It's a mind blowing experience as it takes you out of your comfort zone.

As for New York being sold out - we didn't want to get fleeced with Manhattan hotels so stayed at a VRBO place in Brooklyn which was about 20 mins on the subway into Manhattan.

I'd tell you about San Antonio Texas but I'm keeping it all to myself...

O Porto. Portugal. Visit port wine cellars and experience the unique melancholic sound of live Fado with a few glasses of Port Wine. Take a cruise down the Duro with lunch included. Or just visit the many traditional Portuguese restaurants on the river banks and ride the 'electico' (tram) around the hillside city.

I always imagined Cyprus as the expensive part of Europe. I'll have to do some research. That price seems very reasonable

No it's not at all - think last year the hotel/flights etc was a little bit more than we've paid this year (which is above) and then we got through around £1800 in spends, which included all meals, trips out etc etc, which between three of us for 14 nights isn't bad and we definitely didn't skimp on anything.

New York is a great place to visit. It will be interestung for a teenager as most of the iconic landmarks are easily recognisable from films etc.

I was originally going to Dubai this year but have decided to go to Hong Kong where I've always wanted to go. People can give ideas but only you know what you like. Cambodia and Vietnam are popular and have beautiful beaches etc

Yeah done florida. And will go back however daughter has mentioned she wants to go to New York and has written a list of things she wants to do so I think a week is long enough. Was looking into beach holidays in Europe but noticed it's roughly the same give or take a few hundred quid

What about LA; I paid a little more for the flights than NY but made the saving on the hotel. You got shops, Venice beach, the studios, the star houses tours and the walk of fame

I flew BA direct but recently I had a look on Skyscanner and Turkish Airlines had an offer of £420 -change of planes in Istanbul. Turkish Airlines are building a good reputation. We got a JR rail pass for a week that gave us unlimited travel on almost all the bullet trains which we used to get to Kyoto and Hiroshima amongst other places.

Look for business hotels which are inexpensive and often near stations. They're better quality than the best budget chains in the UK.
