Are there any local authority planning processors here?
I own my little terraced house. I am considering adding an extra storey. I was thinking a nice glass aquarium. You know, the sort of thing you see at those Sea World places. A few shoals of fish. A few sharks.
I think this would add value to my property. (PS. Anyone willing to clean the algae off? Once or twice a week. We can come to an arrangement. Insured folk only).
I tried the local authority website. It will cost be over £20,000 to apply for outline planning permission! That is with "reserved items" (I thought it would be nice if the sharks could have a window to open when it gets hot in summer but appreciate it is just an extra).
I think this would be a real addition and attraction to the local neighbourhood which, to be honest, is a bit boring. Wouldn't passers by enjoy being able to see nature at work (especially nature at work when the algae cleaner dips his/her toe in).
To cut it short, I own this bleeding land. I pay my bleeding council tax. £20,000 just to ask for permission? What happened to an Englishman's castle, eh?& |

"Build a conservatory on the back and stick your sharks in that "
The salesman at the door thought I was mad when I suggested that. And everyone knows that the permitted square footage of a conservatory without planning permission is not going to house more than half a shark. (Is half a shark better than a whole shark?)
£20,000 just for outline planning? It is an outrage. |

"£20,000 for a residential building? I thought it'd be less than £500
No, seriously, it was that much. I don't believe it.
Mad. It is MY house. "
Have you checked with the Planning Portal? And RSPCA. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"My American millionaire friend had a conservatory built on the back of his London pad - reclaimed bricks, sash windows, underfloor heating. £60k.
This room is 17ft by 18ft.
They saw him coming."

"What's the weight of the water? "
Well, doh, enough water to fill an extra floor. Jeez, are you a planner?
£20,000? It would be a stunning addition to the neighbourhood. |

Absolutely not a planner but know how heavy water can be - I wondered about the structural strength to hold it all. I may have missed it - dimensions?
I've no clue why a planning submission is so high, where they're doing little but be a portal.

I'm not planning on heavy water. That is nuclear shit. I'm not hoping to breed Sharknadoes.
It would be a lovely community attraction. You know, like those houses at Christmas with lots of lights and parachuting Santas. Only sharks. |

I could. Then I would be contributing to the ecosystem. They might even swim down to Pompey and eat a few residents.
But you are missing the point. |
