Is there a difference you perceive between having sex and making love? If so, which do you prefer? Is there a difference in male and female attitudes? |

i perceive the act of having is sex is just going through the physical motions without feelings and emotions. Believe you could have sex with anyone.
i perceive making love to be intimate, romantic and a physical act where you give yourself entirely to an other that you love.

"Yes. I've always graded it:-
1/ Making love
2/ Having sex
3/ Fucking"
Id have fucking as a separate category too.
Id only fuck people i trusted. For me fucking is more intense and harder, pushing boundaries and being rough.

There's definatly a difference.
Making love is totally emersing yourselves in each other mentally as well as physically.
Having sex is much more..... Physical. |

Well ive never made love so wouldnt know.. but i imagine it to be all lovey dovey and poetic and lyrical
i imagine fresh linen, gentle breees, flowers on the side on a spring warm day..
oh and of course being so deeply in love and in sync with one person you just give every part of who you are and submit all your dreams and hopes to that individual in the trust they will be with you forever
i have zero experience in that .. its just what id imagine it to be.. |

I agree totally. You can have sex with anyone and have no emotion. Make love with the person you love. But you can fuck the person you love too but you can also fuck a person you trust as to fuck and I mean really fuck you need to know that person and what they want and really like for it to be a mind blowing fuck. |

Making love is done with feelings and passion with your partner ,sex is no feeling involved like here on fab and it's fun ,a fuck is like a d*unken one night stand |

That's what I want but with that comes a whole level of trust that I'm not sure I'll find on here. Xxx |

Would it blur the line by asking those of you who have or have had long term partners the following question?
When you first had an intimate act with your partner, were you making love or having sex? |

Sex on the first night we met. Then we fucked like rabbits for a few months and then one day made love.
Then the love stopped we had argument make up sex and just fucked and then just emotionless sex and then it was over.
Then after that we just fucked as most people do when you have no one else at the time as you know it's good and wrong which is what makes fucking the best out of all three in my mind whether your in a relationship or not. In love with the person or not or just fuck buddies. |

To me, as has been commented above, making love doesn't necessarily have to be soft and lovey.
Making love, to me at least, is being with someone and becoming one. Uniting in mind, body and soul. It could be tender and caring, or it could be the release of raw passion in an almost explosion of sexual activity.
You meet people for a fuck for a few hours when the need arises or to fulfil a desire. There's no real meaning, apart from getting what you need.
You make love to those people special enough who deserve and have earned the right to see you carved open...deep into your soul. |

nothing but sex.
love was what happens away from sex and made me bond with them. |

See those words sound fabulous and evocative but when I reflect on my own experience they simply don't describe any of my sexual experiences.
Perhaps I'm too fucked up to experience stuff like that ![](/icons/s/2/idea.gif) |

To me the difference between shagging and making love is the feelings you have with who you are with
You can be soft and sensual and just be fucking if it's a meet off here or you can be hard and rough and making love if your with your soul mate |

Well I have never been in love so I've never made love therefore I'm maybe not the best person to comment but that's how I see it yes
If you love somebody then surely no matter how the sex is its love making?
Same as if it's a meet off here surely it's just a shag? |

See I can go with that definition, it's the 'carving open of your soul' definitions that have me wondering what the fuck is the experience that goes with those words? |

i've never had sex like that so no i can't really.

i don't think so no.
i have been in love twice and even though the sex was good i didn't miss that at all when we split up, i missed other things about that person. the sex was good and sorted out a/n need/urge but i never attached any sentimentality to it at all. it wasn't special because i was fucking someone i loved, other things were special and the sex wasn't as intimate for me as other things with these people.
i suppose, overall, i don't attach anything to sex. despite enjoying it. |

I think I've experienced what you talk about. I haven't associated anything special with sex. The sentimental things in my life and relationships are not sexually related, and the romantic side of my life is also not sexually related. However that might simply be a sexual dysfunction for me rather than a shared reality. That is why I was curious. |

The phrase 'making love' makes me feel icky. I'm not very romantic, so we have sex or we fuck. No making love for us.
