Why is it a good looking guy can really put me off when he doesn't use any punctuation. I can't help but wonder if they talk like that too?

Kids. Learn punctuation in school if you ever want to get ahead talking to the opposite sex online.

Hopefully not too many kids at school will be reading this post

But to be honest not everyone really cares , and plenty of women don't use good punctuation either ......

True, plenty of women don't use very good grammar and I find it off putting.

Mistakes are mistakes, they don't bother me, I don't require perfect English but when it seems that it's wilful ignorance, that is incredibly frustrating.

Typos are inevitable but when I see something that is poorly punctuated, badly spelt or littered in text speak I lose all interest in someone.

Mistakes are fine; but illiterate gabble with no punctuation, and no pretence of spelling or grammar tells me all I need to know about someone.

And that no matter how physically attractive and lovely that oerson us, I could not enjoy spending time with them.

( and that they would not enjoy my company either).

Would we realise if we just met them in a club instead of messaging though?

Or do they speak without full stops too?

Or would we just have a sense that they aren't for us, but we can't quite figure out why?

Who's met someone and had fun, and then messaged afterwards and realised they spk in txt spk n cannt splell?

I find the worst for it are older generations (no offence to anyone here. Just my experience). I find that they use text talk and bad punctuation a whole lot more when I message them than when I message someone of my age.

As long as I can understand what someone is trying to say, that's fine by me.

Correct use of grammar and punctuation, doesn't make someone more attractive to me. I either like someone or I don't.

Then, I'm far from perfect myself in that department.

I've only started going to school in year 8, so I missed out quite a bit. That being said, not every opposite sex member is bothered so much by the grammar and punctuation.

Being dyslexic, I have always struggled to write but I too get erked by bad punctuation; I don't always get it right myself but I do try.

Not sure it would totally put me off a very sexy lady though.

I don't hate you at all. And I don't think there a correlation between niceness and spelling either. You could very well be Shakespeare and a complete bastard.

It's a genuine question, and I wish I could get my head around why it affects how I view someone. Thats why I posted the question really.

I'm well aware it's my own issue, maybe I'm a punctuation snob. And my grammar is awful so I can't complain about that.

I think I've got worse as I've got older, I'm sure things like this didn't bother me in my 20's. They were fit, they fancied me, game on. Simpler times.

Maybe it's the internet's fault? Too much choice so your brain invents arbitrary things as a filter?

No clue.

I'm getting a bit fed up of the "grammar/spelling Nazi" comments. Are we really comparing someone who likes to see correct punctuation with a poltical movement that tried to exterminate a whole race?

Back to the point - everyone can make a mistake when trying to type on a phone's keyboard, but some people seem to take pride in the fact they cannot use correct grammar or spelling. Since when has ignorance been a virtue, and do I really want to meet someone who thinks that it is?

I do not go be two squirts of piss, most of the time grammar nazis, are just role who just like to feel superior to someone, anyone, doesn't matter if they are dyslexic and struggling with reading and writing in everyday life, it doesn't matter that there might be a reason that they had a poor experience within the education system, none of that matters because they can spell and punctuate

I do have a lot of respect for people who are dyslexic or have similar difficulties and put in a lot of effort to read and write. I went on a teaching course where we were given text written in the way a dyslexic might perceive it. Wow, it was so difficult. I think I'd just give up altogether!

Writing and reading came easily to me. But I struggle really badly with writing succinctly and getting to the point, which is why my posts are so long!

If someone chats to me and found it a turn off because I write too much, that's fine because I talk like that as well and I really would irritate the crap out of them if we met.

I think there's a difference between preferring to meet with people you chat in a similar way to, and openly criticising someone's use of the word your instead of you're in a post.

Only the latter is a grammar nazi (or other non-nazi terminology of your choice).

It matters to me if they can't form understandable words and sentences because it means they cannot do the most basic human interaction; communicate.

If you can't communicate intelligibly, then you pretty much can't go anything else.

"

I disagree with your implication that all communication is written.

I've been thinking about this a bit more and I think I find a specific type of verbal flirting a turn on. It's quite a challenge for me mentally. So if someone can't do that, we're much less likely to have much chemistry during a meet.

In the same way, I find biceps very sexy. I have met people without defined biceps, but they tick the "verbal flirting" box. And I don't like people with a "fuck n go" mentality so I don't meet people like that.

I'm not saying "this is the correct way to exist on fab", just personally what my likes and dislikes are.

Really hoping this thread doesn't get any nastier!

Owwwww the bans I've had over this would make your Titsey turn sagy love haha

"In life, I am bit of a grammar Nazi because it's part of my job. I would not discount meeting somebody for it though, but I would for using text speak as I find it very lazy.....

And I'm tired of it being seen as ignorance. I put 10 times the effort into every post I make and I'm proud of what I've become with the stigma I have from no choice of my own

You're lovely, don't let it get you down. People can't help what irks them. You will have things that put you off other people. It's just the same. x"

Hey don't you put me down to I'm bloody awesome me

"Why is it a good looking guy can really put me off when he doesn't use any punctuation. I can't help but wonder if they talk like that too?

Kids. Learn punctuation in school if you ever want to get ahead talking to the opposite sex online.

You must hate me which is such a shame because I'm a nice guy but having dyslexia I concentrate on getting the right letter in what I'm writing and hope people see post the rest

I find you one of the easiest people to communicate with Bladey.

That because we both speak perv "

No, you've mistaken me for someone else.

If you can't communicate intelligibly, then you pretty much can't go anything else.

If someone chats to me and found it a turn off because I write too much, that's fine because I talk like that as well and I really would irritate the crap out of them if we met."

It's fine right up to the point you have to take a nap half way through the 17th message.....

I like communication full stop, written & verbal ~ if someone can't converse with me in a way I can understand than we're probably not going to be compatable.
