I got one of them funeral plans ,not being morbid but you have to think about these things. They have given me an Undertaker that is so short staffed he pays the taxi drivers across the road to help him carry the coffins out of the parlour,so i rang them and they wont change it ,not very dignified at all.

I thought there would be a good living to be made being an undertaker. They are never gonna run out of customers, after all.

As a serious answer OP whoever organises your funeral can sort friends or family to act as pall bearers.

It is a bit naff when you pay all that money for a funeral, and they are very expensive, surely you should get a good service,i dont want taxi drivers carrying me,what next the bin men

Most funeral directors have arrangements like this for pall bearers. It's nothing to do with being shirt staffed. And people that work shifts that leave them available during the day are perfect for the role.

As long as they are dressed appropriately what dies it actually matter what their full time job is?

If it bothers you thst much can you not arrange for family or friends to be pall bearers?

There really is no need to spend a small fortune on a funeral but it depends what you want.

My lot know that when my body has been carved up by students, I'm going to be buried in a field with a tree planted on the top.

It does bother me when I'm paying 37 pounds a month ,you pay for a service and expect a good service, its like the taxi drivers saying,we havent got any cabs available but we can get you to the station in a Hearst.

It's not like saying that at all. Why does a part time employee who also works as a taxi driver equate to a bad service?

It's been like that as long as I can remember. They use part time staff like fireman police and any one else really. They are trained up in the work that's required of them.

I recently went to a funeral and ended up chatting to retired police officer I used to know.

Pam I've just laid my father to rest and is cost about 5 grand. The funeral directors were pushing us for the money before he was even cold, I hate the bastards, wish I could name and shame on here. Then there's the church, vicar wants his cut at every step of the way, can only have certain colour and size stone in his graveyard, it's all a rip off.

They've got you by the bollox though. Death and taxes........a certainty in life.

Seriously is this all you have to worry about?.

If you were to die at home a private ambulance would come to collect you its all done very professionally.

If you were to die in hospital is mortuary staff who would collect you once you body has been washed and wrapped.

And at the funeral home they would remove your body and take to the chapel.

You need to remember your body is only a carrier for your spirit once your spirit has left your body it's nothing.

Not like a carton of milk it's the inside that matters not what it comes in.

You have had bad experiences which is clouding your judgement I think.

Not everyone treats people that way a person weather dead or alive I feel deserves to be treated the same way and at work this is just what I do.

I don't care what happens when I'm dead my only request my organs are to be donated to help and possibly save others lives once that's done they could chuck me to the Sharks for all I care.

But if your dad had been dead a couple of weeks and they hadn't booked a date for the funeral because they didn't want to speak to you about payment you'd be annoyed about that. It's a no win situation when it comes down to discussing cost and payment. If it's a cremation the funeral directors have a little more scope as they can simply hold on to the ashes if the bill isn't settled but if it's a burial then they have very little scope.

It's crap but there are plenty of people that book funerals with no intention of paying
