.......... this month on sky its basically disaster month.. lots on many channels about supervolcanoes, asteroids, pole shift, mayan predictions, solar storms etc etc..

Now my 13 year old daughter is terrified by all this as they looked at it at school.. and gets herself all in a tizz..

But do you think like me, that if it were to happen, there is no point worrying about it.. I really seriously doubt that they would tell us if they had spotted something hurtling towards us, if the earth was showing signs of a serious event.. again I dont really think they would tell us..

I love reading about this stuff though, as I said on another thread.. I get emails about earthquakes at Yellowstone national park.. as it was quite worrying a few years ago as the activity was increasing very rapidly.. but the swarms of earthquakes and the uplift of the caldera as stopped again at the moment.. I want to go there.. I want to really see it.. but I just think hmmmmmmm worlds biggest supervolcanoe.. thats been getting more awake.. I will pass.. lol

I find it scary when things like that have to fight for funding.. although not to sure what knowing that it was going to erupt would do..

Can you imagine the issues.. if they knew for sure.. that when that event happened.. the world would go to pieces..they would not tell us till they had too..

I think the conspiracy theory on the film 2012 is very much how it would be..

So do you think that its a possible happening.. do you worry about it.. and do you have an idea in your head what you would do to try and survive.. ??

Gee, this ole planet has been hurtling around it's sun for billions of years without being whalloped by something big enough to smash it to bits, but it's only under threat now, because Man has occupied it. How conceited we are sometimes.

To answer part of your question I don't think they would tell us it was going to end until it was right upon us....

That said the increase in all the occurances of disasters in my book points to something big happening. World events are changing and shaping the world in a unique way like never before nation upon nations are in conflict..Is it a random event or are they linked???

i'm addicted to the eden channel lately....lot's of amazing stuff about this wonderful planet on there.

i think it's just answering the needs of the watcher. earth science is an interest to folk right now due to all the half truths circulating about the greenhouse effect and the end of the world. they want to be better informed in the hope it will alleviate their fears.

they being who exactly? the governments?

thankfully, as much as they may pay for some of the research and hold some of the information...there are lots of scientists out there working for private companies or independently.

whilst the government might say shhhhh, they can't silence everyone

HAS there been an increase in the occurence of disasters or is it simply that mankind is now more able to record the fact and discuss it with others?

Up until a few centuries ago a major earthquake or tsunami type event wouldn't have attracted so much comment because communications were poor and fewer people would have been affected.

there has been an increase over the last decade... and the last quarter of the century.. climate and geological events are on the increase.. what we dont really know is if its a pattern...

I dont believe that we are really damaging this planet as much as some would have you believe.. Like global warming.. yes its getting warmer.. but if you look at it over a much longer period, we are actually starting to get colder.. and we know that the earth has had these fluctuations before.. and not sure humans as cavemen could quite manage that..

But it sure makes a good excuse to tax those things we cant do without..however that is another totally different thing.

I don't think it would make any diference to know that the endo of the world is coming as anything you might do to get prepared would be being done by everyone else at the same time................

That having been said, if humans get wiped out by some thing beyond their control it would mean the end of the world, just inteligent life on this planet.

There has and hasn't been an increace in disasters. There has because the incidence and severity of storms and weather related things have been increacing. Earthquakes, volcanoes and other geological events have not it just seams that way because comunications have increased in sophistication and reach over the last 4 or 5 decades and so they get reported a lot more now.

The real shame is that the only thing we do know is coming (climate change) is happening now and will be getting worse, and we can mitigate the worst effects now if we act together.

We are conceited, when we talk about the end of the World we mean the end of Mankind. The World will be alright, ok it might get knocked about a bit, but it will still be a rock hurtling around a star with or without us. Our extinction would be of no bigger concern to the grander scheme of things than the death of the dinosaurs!

yeah i got to agree here, we are pretty insignificant and think we are something special because we have crawled out of the primeval soup. The planet is fucked as its slowly being dragged into a black hole in the middle of the milky way (thats what is creating the spirals ).Fortunately it wont happen until long after we have gone. and of course we still have an estimated 12 billion years of energy in the sun till it explodes and incinerates the planet like an iron filing on a bonfire ...lol....sort of puts the petty arguaments on the forums into place doesnt it ....lol

What a fucking stupid crock of shit that site is!!!

The 'SCRIPTURES SAY'... Yeah, right, like God fookin dictated them to his secretary did he? Fucking assholes!

All these types of sites/organisations are created by people gagging for a bit of fame, or infamy, and they play on the gullibility of people who don't know to assuage the real truth from some made up fantasist's version of it.

GRRRRRRRR!!!

I've read the mayan stuff and its suggests a 'new age' or 'new coming' or something like that, nothing out rightly suggesting the end of the world.

Its been wrongly predicted hundreds of times.

If people truly believe it, would they still be going to work? probably not.

god would never allow, the earth to be destroyed.

he would step in,and prevent any such disaster, taking place.

he created the whole universe, for our amusement.chose this planet,as the only place in the cosmos.to harbour intelligent life.

sleep easy, this planet will never be destroyed.not on gods watch.

all time and all in the current universe will end one day, albeit millions of years from now, but it will end.
