Asda think they have the ultimate steak pie, try this one out
The Ultimate Steak and Cheese Pie
1lb very lean stewing or braising steak
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp fresh black pepper
Handful of flour
2 Oxo cubes
2 tbls tomato ketchup
2 tsps brown fruit sauce
1tsp English mustard
2 tsps onion granules
1 ½ tsp mixed herbs
1/2pnt boiling water
1 ½ tbls corn flour
50grms very strong cheddar cheese grated
Half block short crust pastry
Half block puff pastry
Put a little oil on to heat in a heavy bottomed saucepan
Dice steak to cubes, toss in flour with salt and pepper until completely coated
Add to saucepan and fry off till browned
Whilst eat is browning, add to a measuring jug
The oxo’s, tomato sauce, brown sauce, mustard, onion graduals and herbs, mix well add boiling water to ½ pint mark
Once meat is browned pour over and bring back to the boil
Then reduce to simmer
Cover and leave to cook for approx 1hour and 30 mins stirring occasionally
Once meat is tender,, turn off
Mix corn flour and a little cold water and slowly add to meat stirring all the time until a thick gravy is achieved
Leave to cool
Once cold and solidified
Roll out the short crust pastry and line a pie dish
Empty meat and gravy into it and spread out evenly
Cover with grated cheese
Roll out puff pastry
wet edges of short crust and cover with the puff, seal well, trim to dish
Pierce several times, brush with a little egg or milk and bake at 200 deg until golden

When I first heard of steak and cheese pie I had the same reaction but then thought we eat cheese burgers, so gave it a try, delicious |

Steak and stilton is a good match
But i slowly cook off meat and onion and add a cpl tbs of flour...
Dont need to use cornflour after to thicken as its already done so.
Steak and cheddar sounds scrummy though |
