16th to 22nd of may.
This year the theme is relationships.
Just want to say please spare sometime to read about and understand what poor mental health is.
We do not walk round ringing a bell with a sign saying unclean
People with these issues are totally invisible. You probably know at least one person with poor mental health and you don't even know it.
That's all just spare us a thought
Thanks for reading |

"My mum has dementia so hats of to the people that look after her. She is happy in her little bubble
xxx"
Thank you she is only 63 no age at all.
And has lost a lot of weight but the people that care for her feed her and look after her. They are worth every penny they get ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Have had depression for nearly 20 years. Good days n bad days. Only in the last few months that I feel I've made a giant step in seeing light at the end of the tunnel!! It's still very much one day at a time and baby steps, but I'm getting to see me again!!! If anyone feels they ever want to chat I've always been very open about my depression. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I have great mental health but struggle with severe depression. I'm never one to deny it, though most would never guess.
Cheers for bringing it to light.....
We are NOT abnormal, we are simply those with an illness who do our best to see the best in life. |

Mental health is huge, there's people we all know who will have poor mental health, maybe not even knowing they have or with no diagnosis.
Mental health professionals definitely deserve everything they earn, seen how bloody hard it is, and obviously most NHS staff generally.
Great thread, and anyone who is impacted by it, or has family suffering, I hope there's support in place. |

"I work in a care home for ladies with dementia and its upsetting when they think there younger than they are or they say there looking for there parents"
P works in the same area and can come home in tears sometimes...Not always from sad stuff though as some of them are hilarious. Not so nice dodging flying walking sticks and zimmerframes when they kick off though ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

Unfortunately, mental health is still a Cinderella service. There is a year on year decline in the number of doctors wishing to train in psychiatry. Mistakes are made and sometimes really dreadful things happen, as in this case.
My experience of the NHS has been fantastic in all areas but mental health. Four years ago when I was suicidal they told me that I could only get immediate help if I attempted suicide. When I was eventually seen I was given really good care for a time but it was limited. In order to help more people there is a time limit (in my area) on the amount of support you can get. My quota is used up unless I attempt suicide.

Mental health is 24/7 not 9-5 job with weekends off.

I know only too well about mental health! I have helped and supported a friend of mine for 6 or 7 years she has bipolar and before she was diagnosed I saw her on some incredibly manic highs! Eventually managed to get her sectioned! She spent months in hospital and in the end had to have ect to help her! It was actually amazing although has left her with memory problems! It has not been easy being her friend at times as her illness is very draining. I am so angry with the local mental health service at the moment and we have actually had to go through a complaints procedure! Just trying to get her a new nurse. I attended a meeting recently with her as part of the complaint and I am just appalled! It amazes me that someone who hardly knows the patient can make decisions for them and don't seem to care about the detrimental effect! She has already overdosed because of it! They seem to want to just Palm her off. There are plenty of good mental health professionals out there and I take my hat off to them! But the team she is under are doing my head in! Sorry for the rant! That just all slipped out! |

Thankfully things have changed and actually for the better tho not enough.
At 17, doctor told me to just pull myself together
In my late 30's I thought I could bury myself in work
( not very success)
End at all time low on 3 bottles of vodka a day just to be able to cope
Then I was cured ( yippee)
But now they is no actual cure just advice, support, and life tools to live.
Bad days, good ish days, still crossing my fingers for a day when I am me again, just one day will do for now like.
Thanks to all of you who have joined this thread

I have been suffering with depression and anxiety for a few years now but am getting by I agree with you that we are all given quotas and like you mine is used up due to the cutbacks there has been many a time I have felt suicidle but due to the fact that my time has been used up I don't feel as though there is anyone in the nhs mental health service that I can turn to anymore because it's an invisible illness somebody only looks at the problem when it hits the news and they are worried about losing votes in the next election the staff do a good job but the ones that run it as a business need a kick up the ass and it makes me mad when politicians say they are doing something but nothing ever happens
