Know of any?

Having read the other thread, it made me think if I gave up meat would I get thin?

Or would I just live on marmite on toast?

Doh, vegemite!

meat is full of protein.....i always thought that too much starchy carbs and eating foods packed full of fat (chocolate for example) made you 'bulk' up

an old friend gave me this tip when trying to slim.........

rather than eating a big wedge of chocolate cake cut it into 2 pieces.......as each piece only has half the amount of calories as the original slice then you can eat twice as much

Tricky really, if you cook and eat pulses and lots of veg and salad, you should maintain a healthy weight, its overeating/not enough excersise thats the prob.

Same as if your a vegetarian eating pretend processed meat products, without any vege`s or salads.

Balance........

My flatmate's veggie and is doing a damn fine job of nurturing his food-baby (pot belly).

Living on cream/cheese/pesto based meals does not agree with his waistline!

Yes the reason I posted this thread was in response to a comment made on the thread called 'meat is murder'. Someone stated that the new of a child that had been fed a vegan diet and consequently had malnutrition, which set me wondering if i gave up meat, would I lose weight?

Probably not as simple carbohydrate is the culprit...and yu may end up eating more of tht to fill you up... I also said on that thread that a lot of meat eating children were undernourished too.... and I still know a couple of fat postmen who deliver on foot lol.

"Most veggies i know are pretty fat. They dont eat lard or stuff but shovel down sweets and chocolates. "

Most of the, admittedly few, vegetarians I know are disgustingly thin.

I think it's down to their whole lifestyle in that they don't just take care about what they eat, they also tend to walk or cycle rather than take a bus or drive and they run and/or swim on a regular basis.

Almost all of them have a garden or allotment and grow some of their own food. The one who doesn't has a series of window boxes of herbs.

Only one is what I'd call a serious drinker.

I know vegans who are thing but the vegetarians are real hoofer's. They eat cakes, cheese and all sorts.

A survey carried out by the Consumer Analysis Group, and sponsored by Safeway, which indicated that, with 2,000 people turning vegetarian each week, Britain would be totally vegetarian by 2047.!!!!!!

just thought id throw that one in! x

"...........

There's a surprising number of allotments in and around Glasgow although new allocations are hard to come by.

One recent trend is for the construction of vegetable growing plots in tenement back courts for use by the residents in the surrounding flats. There's also the whole 'guerilla gardening' business where people unofficially take over bits of waste ground which has been allowed to go to ruin, tidy it up and start to grow stuff.

When you look out across the rooftops in Glasgow there's quite a few raised veg beds on flat roofs. There's money available from the Scottish Executive via something called the Climate Challenge Fund.

If anyone happens to be in Linthouse, just at the roundabout at the south side of the Clyde Tunnel, they'll see a high brick wall on the edge of Elder Park. There's a guerilla group in there.

More power to them.

"Well done to them

I think there's groups everywhere but they're mostly under the radar.

Some content themselves with tidying up small grass verges and others set their sights on blitzing whole roundabout centres.
