Butter every time.
In my opinion after reading how margarines and spreads are made and how they can convert into transfats during cooking scares me, sounds downright health threatening to me. Lots of people associate all spreads and fats called 'unsaturated' as a healthy ones. All that means is that it has its molecules altered and removed to make it spreadable or pourable at room temperature. Its a process carried out under lab conditions. It's a modified food.
Saturated fats aren't saturated in 'extra fat' the term just indicates that they just don't have any molecules messed around with, through chemical processing.
Natural unsaturated fats like Olive oil, rapeseed oil etc are good for your health. Again its a question of balance. The words saturated and unsaturated give the impression theyre refering to calorific content and not this chemical process.

The natural colour of margarine is grey, so they put a colour in it to make it yellow.
Hence butter for me ........ Currently liking Lurpak's reduced fat and the lightly salted range, spread on warm french bread. Yummy. |
