Why do you love your job?
Jump to: Newest in thread
People more or less leave me alone. I set my own workload and schedules, minimal supervision. My commute is 30 seconds on a good day, 45 on a bad one... My boss is very reasonable. I get to travel to London once or twice a month for 'work'.
Oh, and for 3&1/2 days a week it pays better than most full time jobs.
On paper, it's excellent. |

I am semi-retired. I have chosen something a little different for my final occupation; which sees me studying part time at university.
I get 4 days off each week and work 3. I meet people of all ages and my social circle has increased and become more varied. I no longer need to fly to work and I get the opportunity to live and work in my country of birth. It's close to perfect at the moment. |

My job allows me to travel (I pretty much live in Southern California 9 months of the year) I have the perfect level of autonomy. I get to learn and push myself in both technical and interpersonal skills and get me meet a huge number of cool and interesting people. I dont and probably wont ever make a fortune doing it but fuck me I am happy |

I make props as in old looking books, swords suitable for film, or even stuff made out of foam for comic con"
That's such a cool job! How did you get into doing that? |

It started off with me studying to be a make-up artist in all honesty :') anythinf from blood to 1969's make-over. Went on to do a degree year and was offered a chance to do prop making instead. Chose that and I am loving it so much more. Just finished my first year and I already run a small buissness and get a lot of commissions. I made foam props before but this course has given me professional skills to make me a serious conpetitor |

I love my profession because I can make a difference and I get to interact with people and I can get involved with some interesting projects. I'm less enamoured with my current assignment as it's frustratingly slow to affect change in the organisation. |

I love my job and I work for nothing. I'm a web developer for a voluntary organisation and organise events and activities. Way more fun than having a boss. |

I love my job because it it very rewarding and I help people with conditions that they have inccured in which doesn't able them to be as mobile or independent as they once were.
I love the fact that I am able to assist and help them in every day life and for them to be able to access things that other would take for granted |

The customers and I really don't mind the work, I never thought for a moment I'd ever be a barista making really good coffee but I do and do you know what? It might not be a career changing job but it's my little job and I love it!!

I made 3D manoeuvre gear for my daughters attack on Titan cosplay, and was offered a substantial amount of cash for them, it never occurred to me that people actually do it for a living |

This was my dream job but was sadly not an option
In my job I get verbal abuse over the phone, threats, sometimes thanks & tears of relief. I won't go into the rest as you'll never "speak" to me again!!! But I love my job even though the pay isn't great |

Oh yes. A lot of cosplayers make them themselves, but a lot buy them. I tend to charge materials, shipping and £9ph if it's a commision it normaly takes me a few days to make the prop. I'm yet to make anything Attack on Titan related, but I love the show! |

I lived my last job; being at the edge of exciting scientific developments; seeing them turn into reality; working with fantastically inventive and talented young scientists and innovators.
Now I am "retired", I am lucky to be partially employed by my old organisation in mentoring the young scientists; and providing independent review and critiques of their work .....and it is utterly fascinating.... |

I'm toying with the idea of making a full master chief suit, I've made the helmet, but the paint job has gone a bit off, but I'll get there |

Good on you. Carers get a raw deal. Always have done. I know that people do it for love and not money but love does not put bread on the table. Carers save this country millions and are unsung heroes , who deserve both respect and a better deal. |

I've only been in my job a couple of months but I absolutely love it. There is such a variety of tasks and no two days are the same. One day I might be weaving a living willow hedge, or pruning raspberry canes, planting artichokes, dividing and potting on perennials etc. Working outside is wonderful, even if it snows! And seeing how beautiful the plants look and thinking 'I did that' is a lovely feeling, especially when you hear the visitors praising something you've done.
In case it isn't obvious I'm a gardener |

Great Holiday
Great benefits
Great hours
Great commute and can work from home.
And a coffee flunky called Matthew who responds to minimal bellowing. |

I just love it - the freedom of organising my own diary, driving around some of the nicest (and nastiest) parts of the North east of England and Northumberland, meeting some smashing people and of course the frequent early finishes. Oh I almost forgot, paid holidays and paid bank holidays - something that I never had when I was self-employed

I have 2 jobs, my weekends are spent taking photographs of people wielding such items at cons. I love seeing the effort people put into these items to bring life to the subjects they love! I'm currently making up a costume myself for my next con that I work at.
My day job involves me getting paid to travel the world, seeing new cultures and having great experiences, abseiling table mountain, relaxing on a Barbados beach, scuba diving in Brazil, breaking the law by having a 3some with 2 air stewardesses I met in a Dubai hotel bar, firing every type of weapon imaginable including a grenade machine gun in the Mojave desert and putting stupidly ridiculous bets on roulette in Vegas. (Ok this part has been over a ten year period and there are times I don't see my friends and family for 9 months at a time, I have been shot at a couple of times and serving in an all male environment for the last 5 years really sucked ass!). |

Only starting off with a basic vault dweller from the fallout games, but I do belong to a Star Wars troop (not the 501st or rebel alliance mind, though it does work with a kids cancer charity) as a photographer for them too. |

Job carries a fair bit of responsibility and can be stressful at times but I got to pick my own team and they are great people.
The company is superb and do everything possible for the employees. They have a policy of promoting from within that has served me very well. |

Hate my job.
My chosen career path was the wrong one, never been happy being in the building trade.
However it's enabled me to keep food on the table and a roof over my families heads, so for that I am thankful.
Sadly I think a change of career is too late as I couldn't afford to drop my salary. Starting all over again.
Can't blame anyone else but myself.
Being a carpenter isn't what it used to be, very few people respect tradesmen, everyone assumes we are all a bunch of dodgy cowboys intent on ripping off old ladies, doing a Crap job and earn 50K a year.
I care deeply about the quality of my work and how I treat people. And don't even earn half that amount.
Sadly I think I am in the minority these day's a being a qualified tradesman doesn't have the kudos it used to have.
So no I don't enjoy my job. |

I get loads of time off, have a canny pension and basically have a great laugh with the lads on the watch. Aye we get to see some horrific sights now and again but the jobs we pull people out of the shite more than makes up for it. I wouldn't swap it for anything. Well maybe airline pilot to tap up the stewardesses like but that's about it |

I have a care job too. Been to one lady tonight who has various disabilities. She was in a foul mood but after I told her I couldn't help her if she kept shouting at me she said she was sorry and gave me a hug. Made me feel abit emotional as I don't even hug my mum |

Your not to old to change and if you don't enjoy your job it's really worth making changes.
Life's to short to be unhappy at work and if your earning under £25 k you should be able to a new job and maybe do extra carpentry jobs to specific clients who will pay for quality work.
Don't be on your death bed thinking I wish I had tried something new and different, regret what you've done not what you haven't |

I have 4 distinct jobs,
1 landlord, now I have great tenants it's a simple income stream, and provides homes for nice people. EXCELLENT
2 Woodworker, I make arty stuff, and carve things I like. best job ever but doesn't pay (about 50 pence an hour)
3 Event organiser, I set up a 4 day party in a different country each year for about 1000 people, great fun, bad for my liver, but worth the work.
4 I actually work in a job for about 2 months a year, hard work not fun, but pays very well so I can take 10 months of good living because of it.
no complaints here |

My fave bit is when we get people back in to see us who maybe hadn't had an orgasm for years and sex had fizzled out in their relationship who have the biggest grin on their face and have gone back to the hands all over each other teenager kind of love as they have finally been able to make it happen. Especially true for those older couples and those for whom injury or medical issues have made sex impossible. Knowing we helped them to enjoy life and their bodies again is just an amazing feeling |
