Happiness - Perception is reality?

Happiness is primarily based on acceptance... in that to be happy with the "now" you must accept all of the circumstances of the "now"
If you good with the "now" (you have accepted it), you will be happy....
...of course accepting the "now" may require that you are happy to accept a degree of unhappiness (thus converting said unhappiness into happiness by disregarding or re-emotionally engineering that which caused sorrow into joy)
To further complicate things someone will drink too much and piss on the fireworks or against said vine of happiness, thus souring the grapes or preventing the "whizz-bang" that would delight; however you may accept that the unhappy (or pissed) person is exercising their right to choice and thus by acceptance we land back at happiness.

So, to summarise, something will always piss on your parade?

"Is the perception of happiness all that matters to make it reality?
"
Is it possible to be deluded and happy? Probably.
Is reality simply a matter of perception? Arguably.
Define 'happiness', define 'reality' and define 'perception' first...
But:
Without getting metafizzical, I'd say "no". |

I am struggling with the definitions for happiness, reality and perception. If I can't touch it is it real?

But if you accept that someone has pissed on your parade (and do not get angry or feel "damaged" over it), you may retain happiness.... Ignorance is not bliss, ignorance is merely the absence of sorrow (you do not know that which would cause unhappiness)
Happiness is transient, we look back to it and forward for it, but seldom do we actually "have" it.... If we can but just condense a life into a single day, you would find that most people would spend more time laughing than crying (most people is subjective and based on a typical westerner or well basically not JoeDiamond really) where we lead cosseted lives with plenty (relatively speaking).
We are happy, but most of the time we don't know it, until we are sad...

they are all subjective angles on infinity..therefore noone is wrong...or right, just consciousness experiencing itself as a facet of the whole...choose what you want, your create your own world view from there..or, prefer not to have a fixed one and accept it doesnt matter..all will work as this is a creative playground of the quantum in form x |

I can accept most of the time we live with contentment. Is that happiness? The moments of pure joy and that feeling full of happiness is much rarer. Is the rare thing happiness?
Is happiness just the absence of sadness?

Yes they are. It is part of life for it to end.
And all you sad little people think of is you you bloody you...well done...so considerate."
Thank you for that contribution. I am pleased to report that I do not feel in the least bit chastised because I know the consideration I give to others. I know what I do for others.
You're on a swingers site for the benefit of others, I assume, from your post chastising me for thinking of myself? Good for you. Making people happy with sex is a worthwhile activity.

Everyone has the ability to be happy. Most choose sadness unfortunately.
We should make the best of every situation and positive thinking really does help.
They say that if you pretend to smile and be happy, you actually might start to believe yourself. |

So happiness and sadness are choices? This has been said to me before, but at a time when I couldn't make even the simplest of choices.

Going by personal experiences, i would say they are.
We can choose to mull over things that have happened or to be sorry for ourselves, or we can keep saying to ourselves..right, i'm going to make the best of today and enjoy the present. Because tomorrow never comes and yesterday will never change.
I also think laughing everyday..even at the most silliest things is the secret! |

I do try and laugh every day. There are times when my depression takes over and nothing can make me laugh though. At those times I am not able to choose happiness. I am not even sure I am capable of choosing sadness - that would be an improvement.

I am jolly happy , a mix of mindfulness and spiffing walks with Pooch.
Life is just to short to be glum.
Smile at the simple things and don't sweat the big stuff.
Never worry about things beyond your control.
And let go of things not meant for you.
Plus an emergency stock of malteasers |

I can honestly say I did not think for one nanosecond you were here for any reason other than for yourself, and certainly not for me.
I'm glad to see you joining in with this selfish thread as people continue to die.
It's all light-hearted and human interactions, even these virtual ones, are good for us.

Tried to pm you but it doesn't allow me to.
I know what you mean. Have been there before and it gets pretty dark. Just keep thinking positive and i'm sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for your concern. I am not in a depression, nor have I been for some years now. I have managed to pull myself out before it swallowed me up.
I have just be contemplating happiness and what it is. I wouldn't say I'm happy right now but I can laugh, have fun and experience happiness in this state - I am content. For now.

"Happiness is mostly a question of perception, just not entirely, there are limits.
What are those limits?"
They will vary according to our own situation, temperament etc. I don't think anyone can be happy regardless of any circumstance, but some manage way better than others. |

According to the World Index of Happiness the people of Bhutan manage it very well.

My perception of the depth of the Marianas Trench has no bearing on the reality. Reality is absolute. Emotions cannot be perceived, that is the realm of the artistic creative process. Emotions are felt; tangible, chemical, spontaneous and are triggered from a font of infinite physical experience. Happy? xxx |

I've never really got on with the glass half full/half empty idea. I see a glass with liquid in it and space around that liquid. At times I am thirsty for me and there is not enough liquid. At other times there's too much there and I really don't need as much. Sometimes it is the perfect amount of liquid.
Sorry, I didn't mean to turn into Goldilocks. |

I don't really know if I'd recognise reality anymore.
I've lived my life so far gaining experiences of my perceptions. Coupled with biases and influence from my life, which help me to distort my perceptions.
And I can't rely too much on memory, as they were of perceptions and get updated dynamically,After the event.
So I'm sure sometimes I did have a near experience of reality, a bit like monkeys and typewriters eventually writing Shakespeare's plays by chance.
Be and live. |

"Nope. x
I expected something deeper from you.
My perception of the depth of the Marianas Trench has no bearing on the reality. Reality is absolute. Emotions cannot be perceived, that is the realm of the artistic creative process. Emotions are felt; tangible, chemical, spontaneous and are triggered from a font of infinite physical experience.
Yes, but they are felt in response to a perception surely? "
It is a reaction to stimulus not to concepts of stimuli.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"I don't really know if I'd recognise reality anymore.
Be and live."
I love you, Sophie.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. Yes, there are real stimuli, but my attitude can colour these dramatically differently to eg yours. |
