I definitely appreciate cars, though I don't know much about them.I just dig certain motors for their looks and speed!
Last year a mate bought an old big merc that was used as a taxi in its previous life.Cant remember what reg it is or what model, just that it's got a 3 litre diesel engine,is a saloon n it's fucking big!
Anyway he bought it for about a grand n spent another 9 on it having it turned into a 'sleeper'/super diesel by some mechanic that's apparently quite well known on youtube and the petrol head community....so he told me anyway as my eyes glazed over as he explained how the diesel turbo pump thingy worked n something called split diff(erential?) that he made a big deal of!
Anyway this thing is loud as fuck, goes like shit off a shovel n eats boy racers for breakfast!Definitely the fastest thing I've ever been in n turned my stomach inside out when he put the foot down!
First time I've ever been jealous of someone's motor......I want one!lol
As for me I'm happy enough with my wee 1.4 16V VW Lupo...
For the size of it it's really nippy about town, but crap on motorways! |

Firs time I saw a Toyota MR2 (MK1), I just loved it and planned to get one. I was in my 20's so too expensive. Then the MR2 MK2 came out and I loved it even more, but still didn't get one until I was nearly 40 and got a dark blue 1st version. Definitely my kind of car and I had it for years.
When the MR2 MK3 came out, I didn't like it, only noticeable when it passed you, so I got a silver MR2 MK2 5th and final version with a squared type spoiler and special edition. I was lucky to get a basic priced numberplate R2 FAB which suited it perfectly. I loved that car and eventually ran it to the ground.
Now I have a Toyota Yaris Trend Sport in horrible white, but the numberplate has been transferred. It sort of has become a part of me and since joining FabSwingers and FabGuys, is even more apt.
So, if you see my car, come say hi! |

In the past, my ex partner used to have old classics, including RR silver shadows, Bentleys, a Daimler limousine, triumph stag, Jaguar sport type which I can never remember the models, but only 1 of the above at a time and never for long. The silver shadow 2 was memorable. Lovely car! |

Clios are great - the engines are superb, but they're naturally a little bit understeery in the bends, which is a bit disappointing.
The 306 is like someone took a rowdy 205 (had one with a 16v, loved it!) and gave it a stern talking to, and now it's a little more sensible... but the naughty side is still in there. |

I saw a gorgeous mustang yesterday and thought it was driving itself
Didn't see anyone in the right hand seat and took me a moment to realise it's left hand drive |

In my younger years I used to do a lot of modifications to my rides and drives.
All my engines were a minimum of Helicoiled with machine matched and lapped heads and blocks/barrels removing the head gasket, highlift cams, polished inlet and exhaust ports, with bigger carbs and pipes to increase power and rev range.
It's a real shame that modifying vehicles has been reduced to bolting on flash wheels, lowering ride hight by changing springs, sticking on plastic body kits and fitting ridiculous sound systems to win prizes for making noise. However I suppose it is understandable when vehicle manufacturers and governments have combined to reduce the ability of a home mechanic to do any real work on engines. |

2008 S-Line. Need some nice alloys and need to make this engine roar a bit louder. I'm sure I can get a bit more bhp out of it. Heard of people saying getting dpf removed helps. But not too sure I want to do that |

Decent alloys aren't going to be cheap.
Oz, BBS, vossen. Decent brands at 20" you'll be looking at £1500 at the very least, then over £2000 if you start getting into two piece alloys.
A DPF removal, with remapping would certainly give you an increased bhp output. Probably well over 300bhp (if you have the 3.0 240bhp model)
With it being diesel you won't get the roar as you would by slapping an induction kit on a petrol, but with a DPF, de-cat removal you'll get a very evil dearth Vader sounding exhaust. |

And if you do get it mapped, please please please! Do not have it mapped by some bell end who's bought the kit off eBay and offer "mobile remapping" on your driveway.
Take it to a proper tubing garage with a rolling road. |

That's the problem. I don't trust many people with my car. Think alloys be good for now. But the prices aren't the best. I've had a look and it is quite a bit. |

There's many tuning garages about that will give you warranty so it's always good if you want to have a tinker plus a base map you can get more bhp and more economy |

DPF removal is now illegal and being checked at MOT time. You'll either need a sympathetic tester or a nicely cored DPF that shows no sign of tampering. |

You're better off having the EGR deleted and swirl flaps removed then a nice mild power remap, you'll probably gain a few mpg too. With the EGR deleted the DPF won't be an issue because the only reason it's required is because of the crap the EGR creates. |

As the owner of a ridiculous sounds system that wins prizes, the police are always interested in the high output audio cars
95% of the time they're totally fine with it but you get the odd one who just wants to be an arse.

Totally depends on what you want and the quality of sound.
There's two routes to go down
SQ - sound quality
Or
SPL - sound pressure level
I have a bit of a mix, it gets loud but still sounds great and maintains the clarity.
I use two 10" subs and a two way component system for the front end and I'm about £4000 into it now.
To keep things under £1000 is recommend.
Hertz ESK 2 ways component speakers for the front, running off a hertz HE4 amp.
Alpine headunit
And a JL audio W0 subwoofer in the back, get a sealed box if you're going for SQ and not booming bass, you'll need an amp capable of 500w RMS for the sub and probably need 4AWG wiring since it's not massive power. |
