Went to check if we had any mail not fab this morn on my iphone. I was rededicated to a site called bango.com they were looking credit card details. The site looked like it was hackers so did not do anything. It turns out 02 want you to verify your age.You have to give your cc details to a 3rd party who by the look of it watch what you are doing on the net.Not a happy rabbit I only go into fabswingers. Anyone else come across this?

Yeh, maybe, you can do that in shop too though...so in the shop with ID I say would do it.

I cant see why not. What I had heard was from others was that they had to pay £1 to verify x

I think that's only if you don't want to go in the shop...it's just to prove the age

Yeah happened to me this week. Been using this phone for months then had to verify age. They take £1 off cc then credit your bill with£2.50. I'm on contract not payg. It's a pain but had to be done. Not sure if going in the shop works though.

I have had this. It tells you to either give your credit card details (not a debit card) and it will deduct a £1 but add it onto your phone minutes, or you can go into any O2 shop and show proof of ID. I went into the shop as no way am I giving out credit card details over my phone for such a silly thing, and I showed my driving licence and they did it for me in about 5 minutes. It was quick and easy but its not nice having to go into a shop and say you want your phone unblocked because you want to access adult sites. I didnt like it anyway.

I have complained to O2 about it though.

Happened to me today. On o2 contract. Called them up apaarently its a government thing that o2 can not control. I said it was a joke and I dont have a credit card. They got my age and details on the system other wise I would have never been able to get a contract. Stupid twats. So anyway. spoke to the guy on the phone and he filled in some questions and said ok wiill be 2 working days. So today being thursday. Tomorrow is 1 working day. Monday is 2 working days so no porn on the phone till monday. Great....

I'm pleased they do this as my kids have mobile phones and it's only right that there are measures in place to stop underage access as their phones are registered in my name as I imagain most parents register their kids phones.

How would you feel if you got a bill for them accessing 18+ sites with nothing to stop them.

I agree there should be an easier way to sort it though but remember, anyone can phone up and say of course I'm over 18, without some proof how do they know? They can't see your passport or driving licence over the phone so a credit card is one way of doing it.

Any better solutions?

i am on o2 contract and had the same thing. i don't have a credit card so after a protracted conversation the stop on 18 sites was lifted. during the conversation i was asked why i wanted to verify my age so i told them i was a pervert who wanted to spend all day looking at porn on my phone. got a laugh from them.
