Is it hypocritical to have deep religious beliefs and be on here. I find it amazing that a few couples we've met claim to be very religious but don't see a conflict with that and swinging. Personally think swinging is probably the bibles definition of Sodomn and Gomorrah but in a fantastic way |

I know lots of so called deeply religious people who are the biggest hypocrites for many reasons that have nothing to do with swinging.
I personally don't think it's hypocritical to be wanting to involved in swinging with other consenting adults and have religious beliefs also.
For the record, I'm not religious.

true christians follow the word of christ and he didn't really say that much. most of the bible is the word of god. |

I hold a string Christian faith yet I am promiscuous. I understand that this makes me a sinner (according to the strict interpretation of Bible) but I do not view myself as being a hypocrite as I don't claim to have answers to deep questions, I don't preach abstinence nor do I actively try to coerce people to live their lives in a certain way.
My faith feels right fit for me and helps to guide my morality and actions. One must balance their own morality and faith in such a way that they can live with and be accountable for their actions and their consequences. |

A persons religious believe does not bother me at all and if they choose to be religious and swing then good for them.
Demonising someone because of their faith and telling them how they should behave is worse than someone claiming to be religious and then having a fulfilling sex life.
I don't think "Though shalt not swing" was one of the commandments.
I may be wrong though and stand to be corrected. |

I'm sure there's a big thing made about sex outside of marriage, could that have something to do with it?
Besides its not the word of God it's the word of man, who has interpreted the bible over the centuries to suit himself, and the political agenda of politicians and kings down the centuries.
I say people can preach to me when they live a life of pure Christian virtue, so if someone preaches to me and I know they ate meat on a Friday, or partake in the odd slice of black pudding then you too are going to hell, so , unlucky   |

See, this is where religion can be interpreted. God created everyone in his own image. Jesus saves all of us. So I figure we're all good if people have a Christian faith. |

A corner stone of pretty all religions is that through their version God lies the only forgiveness.
Without sin, no forgiveness, no forgiveness, no point in religion.
Telling people they can't be religious if they follow the rules 100% is nonsense.
I have no time for religion but we pretty much all consider ourselves decent or honest people yet we have been deceitful or lied at some point so us suggesting someone is not truly religious unless they are perfect is hypocrisy. |

Mainstream religions all promote committment though - some may say one women, others may say more, but none say you can have any woman you want.
And all Christians fail in some regard or another - that's kind of the point! |

While I wouldn't say stong, I hold a Christian belief and occasionly sit in the pews on Sunday.
My belief is, my God isn't opposed to fun.
What others believe is their choice, but this is mine and I'm happy with that  |

People twist the tenets of their particular religion so frequently that they can make it "agree" with pretty much any scenario they want it to "agree" with. |

Organised religions vary a lot even with the same god and books. When people then interpret their religion you probably get as many religions as there are people.
Few people read and remember all of the stories in the books etc, so it's unrealistic to expect agreement, if few know more than 10%. And the translations have usually altered stuff a lot.
Aren't most people kind of atheist today? Not worldwide, just UK. |

Isn't it the same with all religions that you use it to lambast others who don't live as your religious texts says while at the same time interpreting it in such a way that when you don't do as it states, it's ok, or you'll be forgiven?
Most are full of contradictions so lend themselves to it

I think if you put everyone's views up to scrutiny then you'd find something strange / contradictory in most people. To think otherwise shows an ignorance of the human condition.
If you only swung with couples that hold the same views on politics, religion and support your football team then you're going to miss some great opportunities to just have fun.
I usually find that the harshest critics of religion are usually people also holding ridiculous political views that are empirically disproven.
Hence why we don't talk politics and religion in the AbFabs hot tub. |

I think people in general make too much of a big deal when it comes to monogamy and religion. Sexual relations probably only accounts for like 0.1% of the bible and Christianity. There's far far more to considering oneself religious than monogamy and chastity. |

You make a good point. However the OP's ?ion was a about hypocrisy. Many religions have very extreme views about sexual activities, to be actively involved in a faith and be a secret swinger? Sounds like hypocrisy to us.

The last vicar in our local church was of the opinion that if it was between consenting adults then it was all good. She also defined being a Christian as someone who has a belief and relationship with God, no mention of following all the rules.
If she was still with us, I know she would probably be the least judgemental of all our "vanilla" friends, and actually take some kind of interest into what it was all about. |
